DIY for Lowering Springs?

Looked everywhere. I found one for the 3series but not the M3. Anyone know of a DIY for a 2008 M3 for H&R Springs?

just did it.... its the exact same as the 3 series DIY.....nothing different except unplug the edc plugs to take out the shocks other than that its the same

Did you follow any torque specs for the bolts? I've been searching for this info, but nobody seems to care about this ... which I find quite hard to believe.

If I had torque specs for the bolts I'd be on this in no time. But since I don't I will wait until I get that info.

I just did it as well

Here are some pictures

No special torque wrench needed. Just be careful of the bolts when you screw it back on later, as they need to be aligned properly or else you will knack the thread.

Preparing for the springs.

Replacing with new ones.

Installed.

A torque wrench isn't really anything special, but I'm just so surprised nobody has these values for the car. It's possible to over tighten or under tighten bolts isn't it?

Absolutely, this is THE most important part of working with your suspension (and other parts of the car). Bad things happen if you over or under torque it.

Because, while we are all enthusiasts here, we are not all the same age, matuity, or machanically inclined. Some poeple just don't know. Some don't care. And the rest haven't done it yet probably because of the aforementioned reasons.

True, but a lot of people on here do their own installs ... especially with springs.

Hey guys, I've gotten most of the tools needed to do a DIY (including a torque wrench). Stay tuned!

i had mine lowered on H&Rs, took it to a shop that specializes in high performance cars. i'm assuming they torqued it down to the correct specs. but then again who really knows? i could never do this myself because i don't have the proper tools. (namely the lift, which i forgot to have installed when i built the house)

You should buy Craftsman. Their stuff is pretty good for the price. They're life time guarantee too. Something like this would do nicely:

Do you mean torque spec on spring perch or strut housing nuts? As for strut housing, I used 14 lb-ft. Over tightening it, you will be looking at a new strut housing. As for spring, I just screwed it in with Impact gun.

Good luck..By the way, I trust myself more than most performance shop. That was why I changed engine on my S2000 and CRX in my garage and not at the 'speed shop.' Again, I said most not all..

^ this is a waaay faster install, took me and a friend about 2 1/2 hours. and a total of about 8 bolts.
