hahah, this thread got a little turned around, but I don't mind the discussion.

That 135i/civic si picture was pretty sweet

This thread is excellent and touches on EXACTLY the reason I purchased a 135i over a 128i or any other car. My 2004 Mazda 3 Hatchback is a superb car for it's class, beating every other car in it's class for 2004, 2005, and 2006. Only in 2007 and 2008 have other vehicles trumped it in the annual "best of" lists that car mags and reviewers put together every year. That said, I have constantly sought better performance from my car, adding suspension components, better tires, and helped it breath better. I got to the point where I was considering a very nice $4000 turbo kit that would take it towards 300hp. But what it really boiled down to was the fact that to put the kind of power on the ground in the way I would appreciate it would require a $1400 LSD kit and an upgraded clutch. I was demanding more from the platform than it could economically support. End game was that I remembered the words of a wise man. "If you want to build a fast car, start with a fast car." At that point I realized I was in the market for a sports coupe.

FWD Honda is not going to be nearly as fun to play with even if it can keep up with, or even slighly outrun an auto 128i in 1/4 mi.

But really, that's comparing the fastest stock Civic sold in North America to the slowest 1-series. I had a K24 motor w/6mt combo in my 06 TSX and it was hardly a potent drivetrain. Adequately powered at best. The Si has the K20...

I think that a lot of 1er owners will come from other brands. Ive been done with Honda's and so for a few years. Got tired of spending major bucks for catback's,cai, cam gear and other stuff that would add on and not give me that major hp boost. Since then Ive bought Euros and the 1er is just a continuation of what ive been doing for the past few years. As for turbo I welcome that technology(had it in previous Audi) with the price of the gas well see some more in the future. These 300hp+ gt2871rs 1.8t were fun until something blows so a 3.0TT was a nice step up(better base).

I wish the new 09 Audi S3 Sportback Quattro with the 265hp 2.0T would come here. Not as fast as the 135i, but AWD would be great in Northern IL.

hmm very interesting thread hijack.

civic SI vs 128i

dollar for dollar i would take the civic i think. drop a turbo kit in the SI and now your talking

anyway...a fully modded SI (not a 10 sec fast and furious version) couldnt carry the 135's jock.

I own a 128i and here are the specs from honda on an Si

a 128i comes standard with the I6 with 230hp....not even trying to throttle it and giving up the acceleration of a 135(which is evident between the two 1's)

there is no way with out modifying the Si (which with current turbos would only bump you to 202Hp)
can a Civic Si overtake a 128i

I am not a hater...facts are facts...you can't push ponies you do not have...

With that being said....

Civic Si owners....you are not paying $4.00 a gl for gas so rejoice and be glad!!!! : ) : )
Excuse me, but how old are you? A Civic Si has a KZ20 engine I believe. It pushes out 197 ponies. So let me get this straight, if I put a turbo on the si I will get 5 more BHP? With a turbo you can expect around 240 BHP. I am sick of people who hate on other brands. It's definitely not a BMW, but Honda is an AMAZING car company. I for one love my honda and love bmw's. Thanks and have a good night.
