Subaru paint

A co-worker is a Subaru Legacy 'enthusiast' with him just receiving a GT Limited in black on black. For what it's worth, the boy and girl robots at Subaru can lay down a smooth layer of paint. My gosh, the finish on this guy's car is absolutely stunning. I already know my 135 won't be painted that well. At least I can rest securely with the knowledge the 135 will blow his perfect doors right off.

It may look nice and smooth but its THIN! Having owned an 07 Impreza and being part of the subaru scene for about a year, I can tell you that subaru is infamous for using some of the cheapest paint out there! It's not uncommon for the paint to start chipping/flaking very early on.

If you search "paint" on NASIOC.com, I'm sure you'll get your fill of upset subaru owners.

Well, it's not just a Subaru problem though. Lately most manufacturers have been using thin, easily chipped paints for environmental reasons. (So I heard) Subaru's paint on Impreza isn't particularly bad compared to the same year Civics and such. It's just that Subaru enthusiasts tend to have a very high bitching density per capita.

The paint on my Subarus has been average. My silver wrx showed almost zero issues, but my black STi obviously seemed to have more than its share of nicks in the paint. My current (black '07 forester) doesn't seem to have any issues yet.
