EDC long term reliability

I plan on keeping my M3 for a long time after the warranty expires. Would you recommend getting the EDC? Will I have to rebuild these after 5 years? How much will it cost me? BTW...I plan to track my M3...a lot.

If you're going to track a lot then get coils.

Which for the time being equals don't get EDC since none of the coils are EDC compatible at the moment.

If you get the EDC and plan to keep the M for a long time, say 6-7 years, then I would recommend getting an extended warranty.

Come to think of it, I'd get the extended warranty anyways. Anything that breaks on an M is likely to be expensive...

Other than that, I think you should be able to get replacement EDC shocks at relatively reasonable prices in a few years. IDK, maybe $250-400 per shock? Or perhaps follow the forums, someone will surely rip out their EDC suspension at some point.

I plan to leave the M3 stock. My only suspension options are EDC or no EDC. Hmmm...how much can one get an extended warranty for nowadays?

If you plan on keeping the M past the base warranty, I HIGHLY recommend an extended warranty if you are getting any fun out of life driving your M3.

My E46 extended warranty paid for itself pretty quickly, and then some. The parts for the M, and the labor costs the dealer charges are pretty crazy. If you do the work yourself, the parts at wholesale, while expensive, are about 35% cheaper than what the dealer charges. For example, my water pump failed, which is pretty common on the E46M3 (plastic impeller). The dealer charged the warranty company $2000 to replace. The pump is $400 wholesale.

For me coilovers, more so the alignment and ride height, turned out to be the biggest warranty hassle. Not the headers, not the Brembos, not the CAI, not the aftermarket audio, not the larger radiator or electric fan, not the exhaust...
I had to get lawyers involved to get any warranty work done on the diff and rear subframe. Wheel bearings (which will fail if you track the car), tie rods, bushings, and control arms are yours to repair, and even the lawyer told me I would have no luck pushing that.

BTW the extended 7/100 through penske for my 09 E90 was $4K. That policy has better coverage than BMWs 6/100.

I had a 3rd party extended warranty a few years back for $2k. Bought from the local dealer under the understanding that they will not baulk at anything and will take care of the $ issue completely transparently.

Nowadays BMW offers a 6/100 extended warranty (similar to CPO) for around $2.5k if I'm not mistaken, and an extended service contract for around $1-1.5k. These can be bought at any point in time while covered by the original warranty and service contracts and any dealer can give you a quote. It's worth shopping around because the price differences can be in the $500 range...

Might be worth contacting some board-sponsoring dealers for this.
