Factory exhaust provide any aero benefit?

Any engineers want to take a stab at this? Seems odd that they spent so much time to make the bottom of the car smooth and closed in unless it was for a reason. The stock exhaust covers up that large hole under the trunk perfectly, and the valence on the rear bumper is supposedly a real diffuser this time.

Any thoughts?
