E60M5 vs. 2008 M3 - Track

Does someone share their experience with E60M5 versus 2008 M3 on the track or street performance comparison?

The M5 feels like a boat. That's from experience, not from what mags say. You can't shake the weight.

/\ I disagree.... The big 4 door hides it's size very well through the twisties. It drives like a coupe. Also, it's not far from the M3 around the Nürburgring either (2-3 seconds slower. in other words, a drivers race).

i own a M3, and my brother owns the M5. My thoughts on acceleration is M5 feels more pull at high RPM. with his 7 fucking gears, i think he has advantage

the M5 has noticeably more body roll than the M3, altho i still think it's pretty damn nimble, and precise. but compared to the M3, i do feel more weight than the M3

Street driving and straights the M5 is incredibly quick. Picks up slowly through revs and its SMG gets you moving fast.
At the track tho, I hold my own in an E46 it's still way too big to make a really fast track car. Of course on the straight he could gain some more lengths, but I would have to drive with one and make sure it has a really good driver to compare

yeah, but I'm comparing stock to stock. Mod the M5 and it's back on top in a straight.

the M3 is already faster on the track

Having abused the M3 at The M-Driving Experience in Spartanburg, it handles much better around a track. The feedback in the steering wheel and butt is much more immediate when compared to the M5, and you can definitely throw the M3 around much easier. You just can't disregard the extra weight that comes with the M5.
The M5 is not a track car. I consider it a sedan that will also perform capably at the track. At the top end of its gearing, not many cars can keep up.
With both cars, I definitely like the high rpms. Allows you to carry a gear much longer, and gives the cars a dual personality...relatively sedate at lower revs, monster up high.

Have to agree with Spearfisher, plenty of modded M5's on the M5board for you to challenge.
But I feel that the two are totally different class cars, like comparing apples to oranges.

NA the M5 will make more power, no question. DCT helps a little bit as does less weight.

In order to beat the higher modded M5's, it will take forced induction. The M3 is alway the better platform to mod for power, look at the E46 and E36 compared to the E39.

I don't know about that. I definitely disagree about it driving like a coupe, especially after the fact that I did drive one right after I drove an M Coupe. Completely incomparable in terms of feel and fun. It felt piggish in comparison. Track times aren't what I'm talking about. Numbers don't describe an experience. Push the car and it pushes back.

Exactly. It's not a track car. It's just an extremely capable sedan.
