Akrapovic M3 Exhaust System - Essen Motor Show

Gents,

I am certainly not an exhaust guru, but I've never heard Akrapovic exhaust systems for the E92 mentioned on here, so I was surprised to see this exhibit yesterday. The titanium system looks of very high quality, but you can be the judge. I have Akrapovic on my GSX-R, but I'm not sure I'd consider it for my M3.

Bottomline:

+24 HP
+35 Nm
-23 Kg

I will apologize again for the photo quality. The only way that I know how to attach them is to take the file size down to about 800kb, which significantly affects the quality. If somebody could share a better method, I'd love to post my 8 and 9 MB files so you can see the real deal.

Enjoy.

Akrapovic makes exhaust. I think that the focus was on the exhaust system, not on a totally modded-out car.

I'm guessing that's why the TUV question before, because the headers and race cats usually don't pass TUV. Most tuners mark their "race" exhausts and sports cats "export only"

Akrapovic is arguably one of the premier exhaust manufacturers of motorcycle exhausts. They are so good at what they do that in MotoGP and WSBK they sometimes manufacture exhausts for teams that rebadge or are sponsored by other exhaust manufacturers.

This is not to start an argument or oversell the brand, just to let the BMW community know that this company is very good at managing exhaust flow. The build quality is exceptional. I am fairly excited that they may enter the car arena, and will look forward to what comes out.

Based on their pricing in the motorcycle arena, I would guess that this will be an upper end product in terms of pricing.

Good point. And I don't know how to find out for certain because there was no literature at the booth and I can't find anything online...

I have a ti header/carbon cannister Akrapovic system on my Ducati 1098, it's craftsmanship approaches artfulness. They produce one of the few Ducati systems that's known not to crack, the heat and big twin pulses usually lead to short lifespans for ti systems.

Can't wait to see more of what they bring to the M3, hopefully an E90 version. Concerning the claimed 24 HP gain, they don't have a reputation for exaggerating their motorcycle systems.

Akrapovic biuld great systems for bikes.Extremly well made and good useable power with great sound,so hopefully the automotive systems work out as well.
I hope that they have the fitment issues sorted out as an Akro was orginally going on my 999s but would not fit because of the deep sump.I ended up with a big tube Termi that has worked out OK with no issues.

Thanks a bunch for the post! And just when I was almost decided on a AA system. Dammit!

What I know of Akrapovic systems on race bikes, this is now a serious consideration. Top notch stuff.

Price? Sound level?

More details on the Akrapovic website. Just some lite-info.

http://www.akrapovic.com/car-exhaust/faq/

FAQ

Akrapovic exhaust systems are available for which cars?
In our entry onto the automobile exhaust system ‘aftermarket’ we focused on Porsche and BMW automobiles. We are therefore developing or already offering exhaust systems for certain Porsche 911 models: GT3, 996 Turbo, and 997 Turbo and BMW M series: M3, M5, and M6.

Do you offer only complete exhaust systems or also mufflers?
We offer everything you need for different levels of exhaust system tuning. Visit our ‘Products’ section to examine our offer for a specific automobile model.

Which materials do you use in the production of exhaust systems?
Due to our extensive experience from motorcycle and automobile races and access to exclusive ‘high grade XT’ titanium, but mostly because of the excellent characteristics of this material, we use solely titanium. We would also like to emphasize that our exhaust systems are made using state-of-the-art technology and manual craftsmanship of our welders. All welding is namely done manually in accordance with the TIG procedure, the only one that ensures the maximum strength of the weld and an aesthetic appearance.

How much weight do I save and how much power do I gain if I use an Akrapovic exhaust?
The savings with regard to weight are truly large, because our exhaust system can be up to 50% lighter than the original one. With regard to power and torque, we can say that the most basic tuning of the motor offers from 5 to 10 % more power. However, an even greater increase in torque is even more important.

Do I need to change the ‘mapping’ if I install an Akrapovič exhaust?
It is not necessary, however it is recommended for the maximum utilization of capabilities.

How does an Akrapovic exhaust sound like?

Definitely more sporty. However, there are two types of exhausts, which are very closely connected to the sound and volume. The racing exhaust is significantly lauder with a stronger sound, while the homologated (street legal) exhaust is quieter because of stricter demands with regard to environment protection.

Do you use catalysts?
Yes, we use Emitec 'high flow' catalysts, which are metal-based.

Where can I buy an Akrapovic exhaust for my car?
The sales network is still in the set-up phase. However, we will certainly be cooperating with reputable tuning workshops in this area.

Akrapovic is said to produce the exhaust for the 997 GT2, so they seem to be new to the car market but good.

Found a German retailer which offers that exhaust for about 5,000 € (incl. VAT) and states it's TÜV approved.

Best regards, south
