Springs: H&R vs. Eibach vs. RD Sport

Im lookin to buy springs and i think ive read every thread i can find on all 3 so far.

Im looking for a slight drop (not too picky) and a firmer ride for sure. I dont have EDC and Im not sure how a non-EDC cars ride compares to one of the EDC settings.

With a Non-EDC E92, I get some bounce during high speeds which scares me. My Competition Package E46 NEVER behaved this way. It was ALWAYS planted and felt stable during very high speeds even on not so perfect roads. Mantis actually mentioned MORE bounce with H&Rs which confuses the hell out of me cus thats what im trying to get rid of.

I wanna get the same planted, stable and a bit lower feel as I had with My E46 Competition.

Which spring would you guys suggest??

um, i got the H&Rs, I don't think they suck. I think they are good. i'd say about 15% stiffer, and more planted feel. I wish they were stiffer though. but it's a good combo between handling, and ride. they are definitely not bouncier than stock, not that the stock is bouncy

If you don't have EDC then you NEED to get Coilovers!!! It is the only way to go! Nothing to lose and everything to gain!

Honestly I wish I could get coilovers without feeling guilty of ditching the whole EDC thing. Don't even think about springs if you are non-EDC equipped. If you are though, then get H&R.

Roughly how much do each of the spring sets go for? Good time to spend the $$ on a good align too..are they all readily available?

hmmm, I am still baffled about springs. I don't know. I've tried Eibach, H&R, and Dinan. Dinan is a very safe haven, but then again it doesn't give you the aggressive look anyone would love. Eibach is somewhere in the middle. H&R had an aggressive setting; from what I experienced in the past.

If you are feeling more bounce, that sounds like more of a damping problem vs. a spring issue. The e9x M3's I've driven all have had EDC, so I don't have a first hand view of the feel you are experiencing. Just not sure springs alone will get you the results you are trying to achieve.

Typically

The search for good suspension will continue to remain a mystery.

I will be waiting for TC Kline or Moton to develop suspension.
With all of this technology One must take advantage of having EDC.

And for those on EDC Cars Look no where else other than Coils

Has anyone looked into the AC Shinitzer springs? I heard good things about them today from someone that would know.

That's what I was getting for,
I've had H&R, Eibach Springs for my X5, but after I installed ACS sport suspnesion, I couldn't be happier.

I am going to do the ACS too. I really trust this opinion. BTW, they have dyno'ed the eibach springs and had some good things to say about that as a set up as well.

Sorry but how does a dyno determine how good a spring is? The car isn't moving I assume...

Apparently they compress the springs somehow...perhaps dyno is a misnomer, but they had a lot of sets of springs that they had recently tested..I saw at least a dozen of them from various sources. The ACS had the best progression. I trust their opinion, not trying to sell me on anything just talking. Good luck on your choices, I have made mine.

He is probably referring to a shock dyno. You should be able to test the spring/damper assembly, and obtain the damping curve to determine how the shocks are performing under various loading conditions. I don't know how you do that with EDC though; who knows what the control inputs are and what you sensors are involved exactly.

Given your explanation of what you are looking for, I think the H&R Sports would be the perfect solution. They provide a noticeable drop over stock and firmer ride for better handling without being too jarring or aggressive for everyday use. The thing I like most about H&R Sports is that they pay special attention to improve performance but maintain the car's street qualities and comfort so it is something you can use daily with no issues. The Sport springs are also fully compatible with the EDC adjustable suspension.
