M3 with 4 people vs. IS350

Yesterday i raced IS350, while having 3 other people with me in the car. IS driver was alone. I have good driving skills, so no need to comment on that. I won the race, but by a nose. I went and looked up specs for IS, and its 0-60 5.5. So the question is, is M3 effected by weight so much? i traded 2000 m5 for this M3, and the weight did not effect M5's performance much.

Added weight affects the M3 more so than the M5 because relatively speaking, the weight increase is a higher % for the M3 than for the M5.

What speeds/distance did you race over? Standing start?

The 0-60 for the M3 Vert is ~5.1s and has the equivalent of 3 or so average males extra weight, so I'm not surprised the race was close...

The M5 had a larger, torquier motor. 4 people is going to have a big effect on a high strung motor like the M3's.

Weight affects the M3 and my ISF too. When doing pulls with my buddies E92, we are mostly neck and neck. When he has 1 or more peeps in the car, it is not even close. When I have an added body, it's easier for me to keep up b/c ofthe extra torque in the ISF.

if you had three other people in the car that is at least 500. At least! That is a lot of weight and if you raced over a fairly short distance then it's not surprising.

How do you like the IS-F man?

I am an M3 die hard no doubt....but the IS-F does look sweet.

so when your buddy has 1 extra guy in his e92....you beat him by a considerable margin?

We went twice, standing start, till about 85 mph. I have coupe, carbon roof, short shifter and AFE filter.

Weights affects are felt more at low to moderate speeds than at high speed, so if the race had continued the M3 would have pulled out a healthy lead, just less than it would have had you been on your own.

Look at it this way, the e93 M3 at nearly 4000lbs is quicker than the IS350, which is basically the same situation you where in when you raced the IS350. Regardless, nice kill.

I think the the important thing here is that you beat the IS350.

Owning an IS350 = FAIL!

Actually, if the IS350 driver knew to press the "trac off" button for 3 seconds, that 5.5 0-60 is more like 5.1 seconds and it's auto so it's hard to screw up a launch. So, it's pretty quick from a dig. I used to have one and on good days, I'd pull off 13.2s at the strip (all stock).

Comparing the two is not even a fair comparison.

Also, yes, weight is a pretty big factor, especially 500 extra pound. Power to weight ratio is changed with more poundage!

I love my ISF. From top to bottom it has been great. Sure can't wait for SEMA for some mods to start hitting the market.

As far as added weight goes, with the specs on these cars being so close, having an extra body or two really does make a difference. Especially with the lower displacement and not so torquey engine in the M3 it doesnt have the same safety factor as the ISF. But they are extremely close when driven well.
