I have the iphone, waiting for g1 to be unlocked, (and prices to come down on ebay) ,then both.

They are both great, but of all the differences..... try them both and see if you like the virtual keyboard on the iphone, if not....g1 for is for you!! (also the att vs tmobile if you are not unlocking)

I've had the iphone 1st gen, iphone 3g, and now I have the G1. The G1 is hands down a better phone. I love the keyboard, although at first it felt kind of small. The screen on the iphone is perhaps the only feature that is better than the G1...and that advantage is only marginal. Please don't listen to the iphone fanboys. Try both phones if you can. I'm sure you know someone who has an iphone, and t-mo reps will let you test out the g phone. Tell us what you think!

iphone
-stuck with 2 yr contract
-no expandable memory
-expensive plan
-better 3g network
-looks better

g1
-1 year contract
-cheaper plan
-looks like ass
-performs better than iphone
-more customizable

Yes. I am comparing iphone vs g1. The iphone looks way better than g1.

well my problem is iphone with att means I pay more per month ($195 vs $145) but I get to keep my number. G1 with tmobile means I pay less per month but I gotta change my number (and I absolutely hate changing my number, haven't changed my number for over 5 years)

So you're saying the G1's web browsing is better then the iPhone's when almost every review has the iPhone's Safari being better? Do go out and try both phones though. The G1 is the closest competitor to the iPhone currently.

You can keep the same number. It is law now that carriers will have to transfer your current number to the new carrier if you switch.

My friend's fiance is one of the lead designers for Android, so she has had the G1 for a couple months now.

My take: Great software, but hardware is very meh...

Feels cheap, like a toy, a bit clunky, too many features, and I owned both BB and Treo's and I can text faster on the touch screen, once I got used to it, when compared to an actual keyboard, but the touchscreen and actual keyboard is nice, but too much stuf on the G1.

I would wait until more hardware options come out....and get an Iphone. ALSO Proprietary headphone jack is ANNOYING, as I use my Iphone for music a lot.

no thats what I am saying I have Tmobile right now with contract about to be up, if I switch to ATT, I can keep my number and still be a new customer (I will get the Iphone for free thru chinese phone stores). If I stay with Tmobile I will have to be either a continuing customer and pay for the G1 in full price but keep my number or cancel and start a new contract and be a new customer and get the G1 for free but have to change my number.

Just picked up the G1. It is still new with many software coming out on the market. It should have a good solid future.

The case itself sucks ass though.

Feels cheap too...for $179, I'd rather pay $20 more and go w/ the AT&T to get the Iphone!

Iphone's data plan cost more I think and they have some stupid tax, check your bill.
