Picking up a new 2008 E90 M3 6MT

I got a very good deal on a 2008 Silver/Black E90 M3 with 6MT and ALL packages and options. So I went for it and will take delivery in two days. I've searched the forums but want to ensure the following:

Is there anything I should tell the dealer to program or upgrade (i.e. iDrive software, etc.)? I assume I can set all the settings myself with iDrive, but with a build date of 3/08 (but 10 miles on it and in perfect/anal condition), I'm wondering if there has been new software that I can ask them to upgrade. And I want to be sure there aren't any options only the dealer can program and I can't with iDrive.

Please let me know. I'm overwhelmed with information, but I want to know what I should do before taking delivery. I'm also looking forward to the 6MT, even if the clutch on my test drive felt a bit "different". Just getting used to it I assume. Not as linear as I'm used to, and from posts I've read here, normal on the new M3.

I also searched to see if there were any service bulletins, etc. and didn't find any - a good thing. Just want to confirm this as well!

Welcome to the forum!

The only significant software update thus far applies to cars with the DCT transmission. There is no specific or significant software upgrade you need to be concerned with on a 2008 model as long as you're aware that the 2009 model has an updated iDrive system (software and hardware) and are prepared to deal with any potential buyer's remorse for having the older version. If you can come to terms to that and the discount you will be getting, I'd say take delivery and enjoy this awesome piece of machinery.

Thanks - yes I'm fine with the old iDrive, taillights, etc. I actually find the new iDrive too busy (which sort of defeats the POINT of iDrive's simplicity/one button), and prefer the old taillights anyway So I'm good and can't wait to drive this thing. I just need some time to get used to the clutch - it's a tad weird compared to my previous BMWs - 330i, etc.

The clutch is very nice, a little firm but that's what you need when driving hard.

This new M3 seems reasonably solid, mine's tight and I have seen many issues reported on the board.

Good choice its a blast

I'll have to see - the car I test drove had a very weak feeling clutch and very light as well. And on/off. It was hard getting used to it while the gas pedal is so responsive. You know - that balance. It will come in 1 day

I picked up my E90 M3 2 weeks ago and it was a 04/08 build. The dealer spent several hours updating all of the control units on it before I picked it up. I didn't ask for details about what was updated, but I'm sure there was nothing noticable.

Get them to code for the alarm and have it added to the due bill. Enjoy the new car!
