Can you run wheels without TPMS and NOT have warning lights?

Guys

I've searched the forum, but cannot find a definitive answer to this question. I want to buy some aftermarket wheels, but don't want the expense of buying TPMS sensors or the hassle of transferring the OE sensors to the new wheels. However, I really don't want to have error messages appearing on the iDrive screen. So, can anyone tell me the answer to this? Has anyone tried? i.e. if there are no TPMS sensors present and you reset the system will error messages be displayed or will the reset satisfy iDrive that the pressures are acceptable?

Thanks .. DC

No TPMS = Warning Lights.

No way around it.

BMW dealer in Glasgow says no TPMS on E92 M3

Just called my local dealer here in Scotland and asked about TPMS sensors and their service guy said "your car doesn't have them. All newer BMW's have TP sensor function via ABS". I said that contradicts what I've heard and seen elsewhere and I ask him to confirm. He says "I just have". I say, please go and check this, as I want to fit aftermarket wheels and don't want to have warning lights.

I'm waiting to hear back, but I trust the advice and opinions of the folks on this forum more than I trust my local dealer, so I'm expecting a very sheepish phone call later today!!

Also asked him to confirm wheel offsets, as every alloy wheel vendor I've spoken to has quoted different offsets ... why is this info so difficult to obtain?

i don't know about UK but in USA cars that have TPMS (since 06) to turn off tpms is a federal crime. Don't ask me why?? but it is. I wanted to turn mine off. I think it's way too sensative.

UK law is different AFAIK

Hi

As far as I'm aware there is no legal issue in the UK.

Send a message via MSN to montreal red
well here in canada, the dealership can turn off the tpms thing for you if you ask them to although you'd still have to pay for it.

Confirmed

According to my UK dealer there is no TPMS sensor in the wheels (UK - couldn't comment on other markets). The TPM is still done by sensors on the ABS system here ... good news for me as it means I don't need to worry about warning lights

We aren't so lucky in the USA.
