I put mine on yesterday, and I am blown away how loud it is at certain rpm ranges. I don't know how much hp is gained, but it's good for at least 5 in my head.
Note: I tried to use my gtech and a couple runs to compare to the before and after, but I didn't have the time or road to do it properly. Sorry guys.

For all those who noticed a difference with the filter (sound, power), did you get the oiled or dry filter? Anyone with the dry filter notice any difference in sound or power? Does the oiled filter come with the oil necessary to service the filter or do you need to purchase separately?

We just got a shipment of non-oiled filters yesterday for the E92 M3 from aFe but it was all presold before it arrived so those were shipped out the second they were delivered.
aFe is currently backordered on the oiled versions and now the dry unfortunately but they gave us an estimated delivery of about 5-12 business days- I know not very accurate but it is all we have to work with at this point. We have reserved you a filter in our next shipment so as soon as we take delivery, we can send out your order. Very sorry for the delay, aFe told us that demand for these filters far exceeded what they expected! |

It came pre-oiled (not heavily oiled either, like some other filters I have seen before) It does not come with a cleaning or recharge kit. However, you won't need it for tens of thousands of miles.

This is the same reason why I went with the dry version as well. Not worth risking your engine over the oiled version.

I am also seeing an increase in MPG, after a week of driving I was averaging 17mpg mostly city driving. Before the filter I was averaging 16.2. Can anyone else see these gains in MPG?

Count me as skeptical, having regretfully spent $$ on "hi-performance" filters in the past. You guys are seriously getting power you can feel, more growl even though it's a closed airbox and now better mileage?

I have had my filter sitting in the box for the last 4 days. Unfortunately my tools are at my house an hour away and I won't be there for another week. I do have the torx sockets at my downtown location, but not a 6mm socket. Hmm...I need to make some calls about borrowing someone's 6mm socket.

However, the e9x M3 filter has multiple layers including paper and charcoal elements. Pull the filter from the airbox and take a look. My opinion is that it's not so much that the AFE is so great, but more that the stock filter has more inherent restrictions. |
