The real problem IMHO is the lack of confidence in the system...which leads companies such as Goldman to their current liquidity problem...right now...the big players aren't doing anything...

The big players are doing plenty. They're sucking up the other players into an ologopoly. Here come the roaring 20's all over again. The major player? Why the unscrupulous J.P. Morgan & Chase of course. The very ones who instigated the very first stock market crash of 1917. J.P. was also the largest lobbyist for halting short selling because it was negatively affecting its share prices and would make it difficult to fund the coming fire-sale acquisitions. to no suprise...
they're actually talking about getting the $700 billion from private sources. that would be much better, although like gumshoe said, they're dicking with the system. the system is all of a sudden going to reach this magical "equilibrium" once the $700B is coughed up? as if $700B will magically fix all the problems. the problems lie within the companies that caused that problem. not the fact that the system is in debt. |
