Both brands you mentioned are high quality and bring something different to the table. The best judge of "which is better" is going to be you for you. A handgun is a tool. As long as it goes bang when you need it, it's a good one. Anything beyond that will be personal. I prefer Glocks - ugly, takes everything you can throw at them and still functions. Just like me.

I want to get a Glock... It's probably gonna be the 17 or the 21... do you know the big difference between them? one's a .45 and the other 9mm... what's the real difference? |

Grip size. The 17 is better for medium hand size. The 21 is a chunk. Mag capacity, as well. 17+1 on the 17 or 13+1 for the 21.
I call the 17 the gift that keeps on giving. You can stack a lot of rounds in that mag. It's easy to shoot, easy to maintian and large enough that when you run out of rounds you can use it as an impact weapon and it will be felt. I just got the 21 SF last week. The new, reduced grip makes the 21 more user friendly for me. A buddy on the range said it was a "thunderous beast" till I cranked off some rounds with my 33. Now that little pup is a thunderous beast. Head over to www.glocktalk.com for all your Glocking questions. They are never short of opinions over there. |

Tek-9's are known jam-o-matics. Anyone using a machine gun for home defense has watched a few too many movies.
The Desert Eagle is not a pistol for beginners. The recoil, weight, and sheer dimensions of the gun will cause a lot of bad habits. Start off with a .22 rifle, then move to a .22 handgun. The minimal recoil will make it quite easy to learn the basics. Any large manufacturer makes a solid firearm. Glock, Beretta, Sig, HK, S&W, Springfield. All depends on what the tool will be used for and most imporantly, the person shooting it. Try taking an NRA course available at most shooting ranges. Gives you a solid foundation from which to build on and they're pretty inexpensive for the wealth of knowledge you attain in various aspects of cleaning/owning/using firearms. ________ WEED VAPORIZER Last edited by HappyG; 03-08-2011 at 10:18 AM. |

Go to The Stockade in Westminster. Its off of Beach and Westminster. Head north on beach and turn right on westminster. It'll be on your immediate left (looks like a wood fort) so you would need to make a U-turn. BTW, be careful when you park coming into the parking lot. You'll scrape your bumper pretty good if you don't go slow. Don't ask how I know.
![]() They have like I think +500 handguns? All manufacturers incuding Glock, Beretta, Springfield Armory, Ruger, Sig Sauer, Browning, Heckler & Koch, FN Herstal, Smith & Wesson, etc. BTW, you need to get a HSC (Handgun Safety Certificate) by taking a simple check of to see if you can handle the gun you want to buy. Good thing is, you only need to take it every 2 years. (I think) Also, you can buy only one handgun every 30 days. There is also a 10 day waiting period on any firearm purchased. Magazines cannot exceed 10 rounds. You're intended gun of purchase also must be on this list: http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/ Feel free to PM me! VERY IMPORTANT: Once you find a model handgun you like, call a shooting range and see if they have the same one you can rent to shoot. You might be sold on one handgun, but once you shoot it, you might hate the thing to death. |

@ Glacked & Japanese Racer:
Thanks for the advice. I will have to get over to a gun range and test the two. Also, for home defense, wouldn't a shotgun work just as well as most anything else? I can't seem to think of a reason not to buy something like the Remington 870 Tac.

Turner's has the WORST prices and service. I only use them to handle and view the items, never to purchase. Especially accessories and ammo..zomg.
