Although the M3 is very fast does anyone know of any engine modifications that are availible yet? Now a turbo would make the car shockingly fast!!!!!

Turbos would blow this high revving, high compression engine within 20 kmi without significant bottom end mods!!
If you want forced induction, buy a 911TT, GT-R, or EvoX.

Or buy an F10 550i or E90 335i if you need a BMW

Just put some sort of performance decal on it. That should net you 5hp at the wheels.

Yes turbos do increase power.....BUT the M3 motor does not lend itself to boost in stock form...the compression ratio is just too high to add boost too without race gas (even with it really)...so you will need to change the pistons to something lower to really get some silly HP out of one...BUT if that was done.....800hp would be easy...

Keep it stock, and enjoy the car. Remember, it is not the car that makes the driver, it is the driver that makes the car.

and soon enough, there will be good software upgrades and those should give a bit of power too!

The M3 responds very well to just the basic tuning like metal CATS, exhaust, intake and well developed ECU remap.
There are already claims and what I believe to be genuine dyno graphs which show 460+bhp. In the real sense, that's what most sc'd E46's make if they want to stay reliable. The E46 never responded that well. 15bhp from an ECU tune was the max in the real world. Intake modifications never worked unless you were looking at larger intake volume based plenums and exhausts added around 5-7bhp on a good day. I am sure we'll get loads of compressor kits for the new M3 but I won't be offering them without plenty of durability testing. It's easy to get big power but for how long? |

I don't think we'll find out until aftermarket cams are available. The e46 cams were rather aggressive IIRC, but still a little room for improvement. I cease to believe the V8 is as high strung as the I6, from the way it feels and sounds, to the way it acts, and the way it responds to bolt ons.
