Should the president be Internet savvy?

"Knowing the difference between a server and a waiter is important for any political leader in our day and age..."

It doesn't matter whether the President is internet savvy... unless he would have his own blog and forum that he would actually participate in. That would be cool. But then he might waste as much time as we do.

I wouldn't want the President to be so distracted. I was much more productive at work before I found e90post.com and other forums.

Does he/she need to know how to use the telephone? TV?

I guess his "handlerers" could do that too...

It would probably be best if the President didn't watch much TV. Most of us would be better off if we watched less TV.

I'm confused what using the Internet has to do with being President? Did I miss something and negotiations with international leaders are now done on IRC and Facebook walls?

President doesn't need to know a lot of things.
Knowing a lot makes a well rounded person, more capable of making good decisions.

Not being able to "go online" tells something about the century someone is stuck in.

McCain is freaking old dude....

Wholeheartedly YES. God. Do we really need another President who doesn't know how to seek out his own information, instead relying on lobbyists and advisors telling him how to make a decision. Only a user fully understands the importance, benefits and disbenefits of the internet. Otherwise, he is just ignorant.

We've had enough ignorance this century.

Let me get this straight, you would rather have a president rely on Google and Wikipedia than members of his cabinet and public experts in their fields?

Mommy, what's a "disbenefit"?

Oh don't worry about that, Suzy. The person that told you that word is grammatically challenged."

Mommy, mommy, why do they call daddy a DUMB ASS?
Because he thinks he knows something, but in the end, it is so easy to prove the opposite...

http://encarta.msn.com/dictionary_56...isbenefit.html

EDIT: if that word is not in Texas Dictionary, does not mean it is actually not a word...

He would be a very popular president. Everybody else gets their information from those sources. He would be on the same page as us all. Doesn't matter if the info is accurate. It's just perceptions that count.

I’m amazed how some of you still find it necessary to respond to all these haters. They are part of the Daily kos, Moveon.org, Media Matters, and Huffington Post crowd. They are some of the most hateful, vile, unhappy people you will ever meet. The only problem I am having is, when you quote these losers I have to see their worthless posts. Stop it, I tell you!!!

Let's see if we can all get on Rips335iCoupe's ignore list. It's a better place to be. Then he won't see any of our posts and we wont need to see him posting his objections to quotes.

It absolutely is important.

I personally use the internet not only to find things to my own liking, but to read dissenting opinions to mine as well. And through that, I learn A LOT about what other people think/feel. I learn things that never even crossed my mind. I think it's imperative for most this day and age to know how to use the internet, especially if they're going to have as much interaction with the common American public. I know if I didn’t surf the net, I would be completely one-sided in several aspects of debate. There’s no way a handful of hand-picked “advisors” can provide the whole truth, especially those whose jobs are on the line. You need to back up your advice and actions with neutral, honest opinions, and all of us often find those here on the internet. On the other hand, if you're gramma who sits in the house watching network tv all day, not so important.

What's wrong with the President surfing the net, watching tv, or anything else entertaining? Would you rather him be on the golf course? Internet to many is the equivalent of entertaining yourself (perhaps why we all post here), so what really is the difference? How would you like it if the President worked on cars as his hobby instead? Would you rather have him surf the net (at least he might be learning something)?

The internet is a waste of time. Too much useless shit to wade through.

A good boss has his people do the legwork.

The president doesn't read newspapers, per se, either. People cut and paste articles for him, every single day.

He doesn't need to know how to drive, fly a plane, use a microwave, or turn on a computer.

He needs to know how to choose good underlings (and speech writers), and make informed decisions. He should be charismatic, a good leader, and be able to communicate clearly.

He might enjoy surfiing the interwebz, but it would be only for pleasure.
