M3 e92 vs. Lexus SC400 supercharged?

Hi all,

New to the board, got a question for you.

I just got a Passport detector installed on my car (would love to hear reviews/experiences with that, just got a ticket w/ it so far so i'm a little less than satisfied) and the installer was asking if I'd be interested in racing against a friend of his, who has a 92 Lexus SC400 with a supercharger. Looking for some feedback as to how the two stack up to each other...

they can be pretty fast. could have nitrous too. I raced one at irwindale 1/8 mile in my e46 M3 and got smoked. of course I am not a big striaght line race fan - i prefer the curves. also got beat by modded S4 and AMG c32

I'm not sure what other mods he's got, or if he's running nitrous. The guy trying to set us up to race is Mexican and he called it a "super car", which I'm interpreting as 'super charged', but I could be off w/ that too. The Lexus driver wants to put $2k on it, and while i love my car i'm not sure i want to spend $2k finding out what it can do against what may or may not be a supercharged Lexus - at least, not without a little research first

Not enough information to really decide...but with any good SC the SC400 should be able to beat the M3.....both are 4 liter V8's but one is boosted....that motor can easily throw down 500+ hp....many have gone over 1000hp with twin turbos...its a very strong engine

could is the key here- YES, one "could".

run high psi, nitrous, slicks, stripped out interior and race seats, strip down the car to lose weight. carbon fiber body panels etc.

ANYTHING is possible with a modded car. I have seen street legal VW beetles that would run a 11.00 second 1/4 mile and beat you too.

save your money.

Don't ever bet on a race with a stock car vs. modded. A modded car could be as fast as the owner wants it to be. You are at a disadvantage. He clearly knows whether he can win or not - he knows exactly how fast your car is since its stock. I mean seriously haven't you ever seen "Pinks"? The whole show is about them trying to convince the other guy there car is what they say it is.

If you make this bet you will be giving away $2k, plain and simple.

With enough money, you could supercharge just about any car to be faster than an M3 in a drag race. For about 6 grand, I had my old STi running 450 wheel horsepower, up from 245 @ the wheels. It's easier than you think. Watch out for FI cars, they bite.
