UK 'must check' US torture denial

This is the title of a piece on BBC World.
Here is the link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/politics/7515517.stm

That is a darn shame. The US was a great nation. Now it is just a tinpot despotic abuser of human rights like Syria, Iran, North Korea, Pakistan, Egypt. China, Burma etc. etc. etc.

Wow, I guess our soldiers are regularly tortured during training. Waterboarding is a done during SERE training and no one has been through Ranger school without sleep and food deprivation.

The Brits and Canadians have lost all concept of what torture actually is. I would suggest they watch the end of Braveheart for a refresher course.

This is ridiculous. We water boarded 3 people like 5 years ago. People need to find something worth worrying about.

You're people really funny...
While we prosecute others for same/similar or worse crimes, but somehow the laws do not apply to the mighty US Government...

Didn't the U.S. transport captives to countries that allowed torture, specifically for that purpose?

I've read 'stories' about private jets being hired for transport, by the CIA. The planes were tracked by airport 'enthusiasts', those people that hang out and watch planes take off and land.

I'll try to find some links.

The practice is called "extraordinary rendition."

The term used to describe it is 'extraordinary rendition'.

Try google.

I'm not saying terrorists shouldn't be punished. They just need to be more selective about who they abduct and punish/torture.

Funny quote from wiki, from Clinton administration official Richard Clarke:

“ 'extraordinary renditions', were operations to apprehend terrorists abroad, usually without the knowledge of and almost always without public acknowledgment of the host government…. The first time I proposed a snatch, in 1993, the White House Counsel, Lloyd Cutler, demanded a meeting with the President to explain how it violated international law. Clinton had seemed to be siding with Cutler until Al Gore belatedly joined the meeting, having just flown overnight from South Africa. Clinton recapped the arguments on both sides for Gore: Lloyd says this. Dick says that. Gore laughed and said, 'That's a no-brainer. Of course it's a violation of international law, that's why it's a covert action. The guy is a terrorist. Go grab his ass.'[14] "

We're also on some list up in Canada that lists us as retaining capital punishment. Should I be worried? Mea culpa...

Quote:
The document was provided to Amnesty International as part of a court case it is bringing against the Canadian government over the treatment of detainees in Afghanistan.

Canada has come under growing criticism following allegations that detainees were tortured in Afghanistan after its soldiers transferred suspects to Afghan security forces.
Sounds about the same as some of the allegations against the US. Does that mean if we make a list of countries that allow torture we can put Canada on it?

Quote:
The manual lists US interrogation techniques such as forced nudity, isolation, sleep deprivation and the blindfolding of prisoners under "definition of torture".
Are you sure this isn't a list of things we had to do in training? Sounds a lot like basic and some courses attended at Bragg. Hell, remove two words "US interrogation" and put it "fraternity initiation" and you've got yourself a kegger. I digress.

If you look at the world in black and white, you're missing the whole picture.

Lots of Canadians are killing lots of Taliban. Does that fit your definition of being nice to terrorists?
