Rogue Engineering Pulleys - Warranty Issues??

Just ordered the Power Pulleys from Rogue Engineering.

Just wondering, do you guys think it would affect the warranty in any way? engine wise?

I'm not sure what they are underdriving with their e92 pulley set. The risk you run is that if anything fails as a result of underdriving certain components fails and/or in conjunction causes other failures or malfunctions, they could void your warranty. Historically I can't recall any issues at least w/ the e46 as long as you didn't underdrive the alternator.

Sorry, can you explain what you mean by underdrive?

When you put pulleys in a car, you retain more engine power by "underdriving" certain components. Therefore, you reduce parasitic drag on the engine which results in higher HP output.

I assumed thats what you meant, but I asked Rogue and they said there is no negative drawback.

Its a different size pulley

underdrive isn't always good unless you run at a high RPM. I wouldn't want it driving on the street for risk of alternator, water pump, spinning too slow causing problems at low RPMs

I don't doubt that they are a very credible shop, but do you think they would tell you anything otherwise?

These pulleys are great, YOU DEFINITELY FEEL THE POWER DIFFERENCE!
I would recommend it to anyone looking for a little extra power, especially considering its rather low cost!

Its only low cost if it doesn't damage your car. If you have an issue and the dealer realizes you made this mod, they will void the warranty and you will be stuck with a huge repair bill. Not worth the risk IMHO.

The concern with pulleys is the balance of the engine.... The stock pulleys are all specifically balanced to work with all the moving parts in the engine that drive them. If you buy an aftermarket pulley set and somehow upset this balance then you could cause some serious damage to the engine. However, pulley mods have been around for a long time and there are not too many horror stories. However, if something does go wrong with your engine the dealer could use the pulley mods as an excuse as to why the problem occured and decide they dont have to perform the warrenty work...

Yeah, a few crank main bearing failures were attributed to cars that replaced the crank pully and that REMOVED the vibration dampner/harmonic balance. I THOUGHT I read that the Rogue pullies kept the stock dampner in place...so it should be a non-issue.

As for warranty issues....if you have some sort of internal damage, my money would be that they would blame it on the pully replacement. For myself, i would not take it in for service with an aftermarket pully on it. Not worth it IMHO, as if you have a future issue, they can go back in the records and see you had an aftermarket pully on it. Personally, I won't chance it, YMMV.
