Anyone on the forum do the Chip Mod? If so, which one and why?

I'm looking into doing this modification but need some input or feedback. I see that there is a sticky listing those who provide such chip mods but I need user feedback

prolly wont get a whole lot of feedback as the m3 is still pretty new, its the main reason im holding off on power mods to see what/who has the best long term reliability...

My guess is that software modification will come into play as we see more people upgrading intakes, exhausts, etc. to get the most out of their modifications. There will probably be a slim margin of improvement in power/tq with software alone, but not nearly as much as with the 135i/335i.

The biggest improvement I could see for software alone is to increase fuel mapped in 1st gear from a dig for DCT owners and a more snappy sport+ response.

I've done my chip, did it with a guy recomended by the dealership that confirmed it is undetectable by the technition (don't really care of it is detectable though). Cost $2 grand!! The dyno with ram air intake, chip mod and exhaust showed 42bhp gain and similar increase in torque. Whatever the case, the car certainly feels faster right from the get go and wow when you get above 8,000 RPM. Among the things done were increased fuel, increasined timing, increased rev limiter (in accordance with local fuel specs) and, of course, delimited in terms of speed.

Can you post your dyno chart? Which company's tune did you end up going with? 42bhp sounds too good to be true!

Rev limit was uped to 8,600 RPM and continues to push to 8,500 RPM rather than 8,300 before.

These are the guys that did it http://www.delriopower.com/. They have great faculties (that I visited) and drove a couple of their other moded cars and was positively surprised pleased. Also asked around and they do have a good reputation. I take modeling very, very seriously. But hey, 40+ sounds like a lot to me as well even when shown the dyno, but then again, as I said before, if I can actually “feel” the difference it´s well worth it to me. The car is 20kph faster than it was before on a roughly 1,400 meter straight on the track (where I did 240 before its pushing 260 kph now, WOW, THAT IS REAL POWER GAIN!!). That to me is everything. Will gladly get you the dyno late tomorrow that shows a pick of anywhere between 20 and 40 hp and a much flatter curb than stock. I think we also have to account as well for the fact that the car does have an exhaust and intake that help a tad as well. Right? I´ve done other cars before and haven´t ever really felt a 10 to 15 hp change on a 400+ engine.

Coming from an e46 M3 where you couldn't give your left nut for N/A power unless you go high compression, I'm finding it hard to believe is all.

Also, did they use correction factors for the dyno outputs? Was is done on the same machine?

You are correct, I really don't care about the warrenty (I never have before either) I will ask tonight what correction factors were used and yes, it was done on the same machine, same place, same day.

OK. I suggest posting that info with the chart under a new thread with a descriptive title (which mods and the indicated power gains). The title of this thread would result in the info disappering into the abyss in a few days.

Agreed and good idea, will do it that way. Will have to wait until tomorrow though, its getting late at work and raining all over the place. Will drive up to the shop tomorrow and get all the info.

Thanks. I know a few things about cars and was trained as an engineer, but that applies to many other folks on the forum as well. So, I seriously doubt that I'm the most knowledgeable car geek here.
