Do all exhausts require hacking stock muffler?

As the title says, do all of the current aftermarket mufflers require that the stock muffler be hacked off the pipes? I am primarily interested in the Eisenmann, SS or Remus mufflers. Do these particular ones require the hack? From my search it seems the Remus does and I believe the Eisenmann as well. Would love to get some info on this, though I will probably wait until AA and Rogue release their mufflers before purchasing any (hopefully this will cause pricing to be more realistic as the Eisenmann and SS are at this point overpriced imho).

So I take it that there are no 100% complete bolton kits available?

The Vorsteiner titanium is bolt-on. Supersprint also makes a bolt-on kit. I believe Remus will release the racing muffler as well.

Remus is not bolt on and it requires you to hack off the OEM muffler. Cat back exhausts for the M3 from what I've seen are bolt on for the most part. Bolt on systems aren't cheap. I'd avoid the Vorsteiner Ti exhaust due to only having a 1 year warranty and titanium is known to crack.

As with the E46, I think the problem may be the stock exhaust is installed before the rear suspension subframe is put in and impossible to remove without dropping it? Not a big deal, IMO, unless you want to revert to stock when you sell it.

The e46 exhaust was completely bolt on. I have changed the muffler and midpipes on the e46 several times in my garage...did not require hacking off any of the stock components. I will wait and see what is offered in the next 3-4 months. The stock system is a bit too quiet though it has a pleasant tone!

all the muffler only exhaust require the hack - only the cat back systems - expensive - are bolt on. Just looked under my car and the the point where you could install a bolt on is in the middle of the car...hope that helps!

yes it does. Now I just need to wait and see what other exhaust offerings come in the next 3-4 months (if any).

Easy to see the stock connections here:

Awesome! Thanks for posting that. So it seems the pipes attached to the stock muffler run all the way up to the resonators behind the secondary cats?

Yep--you can see the complex hydroformed shape of the pipes in the area of the rear axle, which is why they don't come with just the aftermarket muffler section.

Looking at this I think I will just go with a muffler even if it requires hacking the stock muffler off. I want to stay away from going mod crazy again...no more midpipes, headers, high flow cats, etc for me. A nice sounding lightweight muffler and, once available, coil-overs compatible with EDC is it for me (and maybe wheels after that lol...but not anytime soon).

Rogue's El Diablo will be a bolt-on system as well.
