Got a call from the dealer ready to make a deal. Can you say Monte Hall
This were his exact words, the coupe you looked at when you were here we are no longer asking $5000.00 over invoice a deal may be had under MSRP. THis was a new york dealer. Felas don't fall for the Okidoke. This was so funny to me just thought i would share.

When the hell did anyone pay $5K over MSRP in New York? I know California has had it rough, but I don't remember any NY dealers asking more than sticker. What dealer was this?

With gas is approaching and soon to surpass $5/Gal, housing crisis, soft economy, and an upcoming election, dealers are in no position to ask for ridiculous mark-up in this climate.

He said invoice. Perhaps he mis-spoke.

I also think substantial discounts UNDER MSRP are possible for M3's that are sitting in inventory...especially 6MT cars.....since there does seem to be a bit more demand for DCT's..... There is about a 10% margin on M cars.......so $5-6k off MSRP is possible

No way in hell I can fathom paying over invoice for this car, as bad of a ride as it is. Why wouldn't someone in California not get in their car (or a plane for that matter) and go somewhere that the markup doesn't exist? Just dumb (or lazy).

On that note, I really wish we had US M3 sales numbers for April and May. I know that info is available (JD Power sales data) but its not free.

Invoice, or MSRP? Invoice would be around $4-5G less than MSRP. Gas is the same price on the East Coast, and I don't know anyone who got their car anywhere near invoice.

That sounds way too good to be true, even taking into consideration that it is probably just for cars on the lot already. How would they make any money selling everything at invoice?

all i know is autosales in california and florida are in the toilet compared to the rest of the country. although the metro ny area did see home prices rise it was not like what happened in CA. Those markets are in trouble- $5.00 gas and home values that could drop 30-50% according to some experts = trouble.
