If you want another impression on the two cars, here is a post I made regarding my experiences:

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134463

I am trading in my 2005 911S, and I had ordered a 135i and I switched to an M3. I think the 135i is a great car, but the M3 is something a lot more exciting in my book.

Cheers.

The big thing I liked, was the Brembo brakes. It stopped F'n quick. I am 6'2 and fit just fine in it, it didn't feel cramped at all. Although no one could sit behind me, but no one can sit behind me in my 3er.
Edmunds released a new e46 M3, E92 335i and E82 135i comparison review. Under this juxtaposition, they came to the same conclusion as you.

they shouldīve test it with a newer e46 m3, like 2005 or 2006, or maybe a competition pkg, i think e46 is a better option than 135.

I guess it depends on what your looking for but the review makes some excellent points...

I was a little disappointed at first when 135i didn't feel as direct as a 350z or s2,k but then I remembered the nervousness caused by road imperfection on canyon runs.

Thanks, I know I did too. Now it is just the waiting... my car is built and waiting for a ship to bring it over. You think I could ask them to FedEx it to me

Cheers.

everywhere!

Seriosly , a regular 1-series is better drive than regular 3-series, thats the conclusion I got after several testdrives with both. And reviews says the same.

1er, is more compact, a smaller car, lower weight- if there was a M version of 1-series it would have better driving dynamics than a M3 becuase of its size. The new M3 has grown in size and gotten heavier. 1-series is the new drivers tool from BMW. Nothing strange with it.

I have yet to drive a 135 but it does seem from the posts and if one looks at it objectively, it could be just as fun to drive in some aspects ie smaller and more nimble...especially over the 335...I could definitely see the preference being for the 1...

I think that a majority of people that have test driven the new M and 135 are mistaking the low end torque that is available at such low RPM's in the 1 as a significant improvement over the S54 or S65, but specifically over the S54 because torque was something that the e46 was in major need of. Also, one needs to understand the power delivery of a NA engine over F/I...

I also think that a majority of people have not taken the S65 over 5K RPM's due to the break in, but the ones who have, have praised the S65 for what an excellent engine it is...

In the end, the 135 is a great value, still no M, but a great car nonetheless...

Those breaks, though bigger, have the same breaking force as the ones found on the 335. Also, 1 has massive understeer problems that will have to be fixed for tracking - according to every major review it had.
