Those are the people that do not understand how Europeans live and where they focus their spending on.

And again...so far, no clear answer to any of your "superiority" claims. Just admit it -- you have no clue about the "free world" economics, just BSing here whatever you heard on FOX...

What are you, 6? Sounded just like my daughter... You have not answered to any of the arguments so far, and have ben shut up by many of us (politics) many times, so we don't see you there any more... You just keep proving my points above, thanks
This from a guy who thinks circular logic is a valid argument...

You want something looked up? Use google, if you can figure it out. You don't see me in the political forum any longer becuase I can't stand the senseless inbred tree hugger left wing circular logic you throw around with such confidence. You're clearly incapable of understanding anything that you don't listen to in the liberal news media, so I'm done trying to educate you on what they don't spoon feed you. My 15mo old son and my dog are clearly more intellectually capable than you, sir.

AH, so far you have not educated anyone on anything -- just empty claims... I tried to get something out of you, but you just claim you know it all...and that is it. That clearly tells me something...

As for comparing your dog to your son (putting them in the same category) ...another sorry story in your life...

Gas is more expensive in UK b/c of different wage differences? Like the minimum in San Francisco is $10 whereas in LA it is $8? That is why in Nor CaL gas is bumped higher than So Cal. Am I right?? Value of the dollar? Correct me if I am wrong please.

Totally related to this topic. I cant agree with you more... the problem is in American Society Minivans are looked at as a Mom's car. They are not "cool" enough for people to drive and as we all know people seem to buy cars more for emotion then practicality.

Ca state taxes are on gas are higher then other states... thats why in CA you pay more for gas.

I cant stand CA and its one of the reasons I will not move back because of that reason. They give out too many damn hand outs, dont regulate anything well (except for smog ... they are Nazis when it comes to the environment), and tax you to death. All the small businesses get taxed to death, individuals get taxed to death, food and utilities are taxed to death, and fuel is taxed to death. I save tens of thousands of dollars just living 3 hours outside Orange County (Vegas) and have a nicer life style because of it, only down side is I have to put up with some hot heat 3 months of the year.

A lot of it has to do with the amount of taxes, congestion charges and general fines, fees and duties imposed on a gallon of gas. The true cost of a gallon of gas is the same for everyone - it is set by the market; and to oversimplify, supply and demand. Whatever taxes get added on top of that add to the cost. That's why the presidential candidates want to wipe the gas taxes temporarily - to artificially decrease the price of gas.

This won't work however because after they artificially reduce the price, demand will increase, and further increase the price of gas. It will essentially be hyper inflated and have the exact opposite effect they are looking for - in addition to depriving federal state and local governments of much needed funds.

A more reasonable approach would be to make several smaller changes rather than trying to instigate large sweeping changes. For example, how many of us could telecommute several times per week? I know there are several million knowledge workers who do not need to be at the office 5 days a week. If we could implement and mandate telecommuting within our businesses we could alleviate congestion and reduce gasoline consumption.

Other changes could be things such as off peak travel time incentives, job sharing, etc. It's going to take some social reform not just quick fixes to get out of this bind we're in.

I hate minivans - the way they look, drive, handle, etc. I've checked out a Sienna as recently as this past weekend, when I looked at the Sequoia we'll probably buy. The Sequoia has all the amenities of a minivan, in a package I can tolerate.

For what it's worth, why are you driving an e9x when a honda civic would be a far more practical small car? Not trying to start a war, but the bimmers we all drive aren't exactly the pinnacle of practicality. An X5 4.8 would be far more practical! (and likely my next ride, if my wife gets any say).

The car companies need to do something! I think althought not sure but the e92 is only avalible with the 6 cylinder engines in the states, i don't think the diesels are available either the 320d is 177bhp and 350nm torque and 0-60 in 7.8 sec and will do 58mpg, prices are rising here because of demand in the US and asia plus the middle east troubles, the american government should definatly make fuel more expensive and make car makers to offer all the models. Also the cars are very very cheap because the euro makers have to complete with the american cheap cars so more people will buy gas guzzlers if there cheap

I agree that BMW should bring some other engine offerings to the US, but there are two things that will likely make that not happen:
1. Most Americans still don't like diesel. Founded or unfounded, it's not a popular fuel here, and most people associate it with large trucks.
2. BMW presents themselves as a high end brand here, and offering other smaller, cheaper engines would likely not fit that image.

Now, what's wrong with the cars being cheaper here? Our vehicles are so inexpensive because most of what is bought here is built here, in one form or another. Or at least they come in from Canada or Mexico on rail or truck, not requiring a long boat ride. The reason that vehicles are so much more expensive abroad is tax. I'm not an expert here, and I haven't looked at every country, but I know a handful tax a car up to 100% of its value. We don't do that.
