Should I get a custom exhaust for my M3?

A buddy of mine had a custom exhaust system put on his 550i and it sounds amazing. I'm thinking about doing the same for my M3. Any opinions about custom exhuast systems?

I agree with PG that it's a science you don't want to trust your local muffler shop or tuner with. There are so many competent systems out there from reputable exhaust companies, I don't see the advantage, and see a lot of potential disadvantages.

I went with the Eisenmann system for my M3. It sounds great. I haven't done any dyno runs so I'm not sure if it makes power but it feels ok on the butt dyno to me. I doubt a muffler would add much hp either way.

Yeah, Id say that the most common mod for any Bimmer is an exhaust. .Go for it!

Feel free to contact me with any questions about Eisenmann systems. We have a dealer in your area that will take great care of you if you are interested.

Thanks for the input guys.

Some of you are not getting what I mean when I say custom. What I mean by custom is taking it to a shop and having them build one for me instead of buying a system straight from the factory already specifically made for the M3. Remus, eisenmann, etc. ...just to clarify. But then again, I guess a Remus or Eisenmann exhaust could be considered custom as well.

My main concern by taking it to a local shop and having a custom exhaust built is whether or not I would lose performance in any way...
