Easy fix buddy. Hope you're ok? Don't worry....a bumper and quarters (if necessary) aren't a big deal if a good shop does the work. A good shop will outline the manufacturer repair process to you that uses the same process of metal work, welds & binding glues. Even let you check in if you wish. Or walk away and let your lien holder know I'll offer 8k:

If it sounds like a headache I'm going back to F80 and just dropping the car. Probably totaled... under the car is the worst. and its at a good independent shop... Friends with the owner (bmw tech). He thinks its done.

Getting hit at a red light sucks (duh). Saw the car coming full speed... there was nowhere to go just had to wait to be hit.

Same thing happened to my E46, traffic stopped on the left lane on the freeway, knew the 5 series behind me was lagging, looked in the rear view and saw several seconds of him locking his brakes at 30 mph into my rear. Very similar damage to yours.

Pushed me about 6 feet into the car in front of me (although I was in neutral, not sure I kept my foot on the brake). That's actually what pushed the estimate over into total territory; the relatively light front end damage is still 4-5k (hood alone is 2k for the part) plus heavy rear end.

I see this as a sad win... For starters I'm alive, second thing is that if it's totaled I can move on to the F80. Third is that if it's not totaled I'm not going to sell it because if it's fixed it will likely be better than it was.

Possibly some money left over for upgrades I've been told. I'd sell my truck and start dailying it as well (only had 80k on it).

Something I don't know however is what happens if it's totaled? I've never been in an accident before. They cut me a check and I keep the beat up car or what? I'd like to be educated on this.

Glad to see that you're okay. I watch my rears the all the time at a stop light. However, even if you see it coming there is probably not much you can do.

Yeah... there was a car in front of me so I couldn't even take the M off road in an attempt to save it.

It's likely totaled IMO and if your insurance agrees they cut you a check for the cars value and they take the car. You will have the option to buy the car back, but it will permanently have a salvage title and you are on the hook for repairs.

If totaled let it go and do not take the insurance's first offer.

"If totaled let it go and do not take the insurance's first offer."
THIS!

Do NOT accept the 1st offer without thoroughly investigating what it will cost to actually replace the car with one that is in equal condition.
My oldest son was rear ended while waiting to turn left into Ft Campbell recently in his '92 Dodge Ramcharger. Thankfully he wasn't hurt.
The insurance company called it a total and offered him $1200. The truck was in really great shape, rust free, good paint, mechanically perfect and had plenty of work to get it in such great condition. Had to gather up all of the receipts to prove it.
Then they upped the offer to $5000.
Then my son went all over the internet to find comparable Ramchargers and what they were selling for to make his case that he couldn't be "made whole" with only $5000.
After weeks of my son sending the adjuster links to Ramchargers for sale and lots of back and forth with the insurance company, he ended up getting $8500 for the truck (and that's what it would have taken to get an equal truck).
He loved his truck and bought it back for $200.
He had it repaired (no structural damage). New rear bumper and some sheet metal work and a little paint matching in the rear and all was good, plus $3500 in his pocket.
The salvage title laws can vary from state to state, so know what they are in your state.

sorry to see this, but if you do buy it back and fix it, there is a very specific part of the rear bumper brace that i would like to purchase.

Well I'll let you guys know how it goes. The offer tip is really really appreciated. It was a 2008 with 80k miles, actuators done, alpine white (as you can see), and everything worked. So I don't think even for an 08 I'd take under 20k without fighting.

Accident hurt the frame, rear panels including the side, entire exhaust is toast, obviously the trunk area, front bumper, and who knows what can't be seen. So we shall see what they say... Wish me luck

Such an accident , collision from the rear can hurt your neck badly with a permanent injury !
In the coming days , weeks , your neck can start to hurt by the impact !
Advice : Go see a doctor and let it check. The expenses of the medical examination are for the insurance of the counterparty anyway .
Don't sign a paper , that you are OK !
I wish you the best of luck ..

Great advice. My brother had an accident and felt fine for the first couple of days. His neck and back has never been the same.

As a heads up, if your negotiations with the Adjuster go anything like they did with my son, be ready for a lowball number. When asked why so low, they presented their "comps", which were mega high mileage, rusted out piles of crap. Basically they found a bunch of trucks that were not remotely comparable.
So just investigate the used market (all over the country) yourself, so that you KNOW what it will cost to replace your car with one in equal condition, and have those comps ready to present to the adjuster.
Have all of your receipts from any work done to the car scanned and ready to present as well, because the recent receipts may go into the equation as well.
The process could go just fine for you, but "Luck favors the prepared".

Glad you are okay bro! Another M bites the dust.

Anyone do the tail light mod? when you hit the brakes it flashes like cray cray? (like it's hyper blinking). Saved me a few times, I did it when converting to LCI.

Let us know how it goes! As long the frame is not damaged (bent) they will fix it.

I only had the car for 4 months as a weekend fun car so I didn't do anything to it yet. No maintenance... nothing... just gas. I don't know why but 2008 high milage E92 M3s are going for like 21-25k. More than the 2009-2011 with high milage. It's odd. Thank you for all the tips I'm taking so many notes.
