BMW M3 or Corvette z06
I was pondering over this, my M3 comes with technology package, ipod converter, 19 inch rims, M-DCT (changed it back from the MT) and black novillo leather. It totals about 68K with gas guzzler tax and dilivery and some other shit. Now a z06 costs 72900 but most people are scared to get them because their really low, have a hell of alot of torque and only come standard. I have absolutely no problem drivin a z06 though and so went to a local chevy dealership to see what kind of deal they would cut. They have this one black z06 with these greyish, black racin wheels and red calipers for 74,900 but the guy told me hed put it at 68500. Now im completly confused on what to do, the M3 overall is more practical, it had a nice interior, slightly better ride, auto tranny, and backseats. The z06 vette on the otherhand is f'in beast, its got 505hp, over 450 torque and a look of a straight killer. This is by far the hardest decision ive ever had in choosing a ride, im curious to see what other people think over this, im all ears, or i guess, eyes.

Wow, are you serious?
I do believe that you should buy a 650i or XK8 and call it a day.

I have owned a Corvette Z06, Corvette, Porsche GT3 and now the M3.
You want the M3. That said - if you are single, under 30 you want the Z06. if you are married, over 30, have a full time job - you DEFINATELY want the M3. Kevin

Vettes are a pretty good value if performance is all you want and don't care about the luxury items or need the practicality of a back seat and proper trunk. Also, GM standards on quality (fit, finish, materials, etc.) are not quite up to the German's mark. They do tend to develop rattles over time, but how long are you going to keep it? However, I hear they have a full leather package (top of the line option for the vette) that is reported to be very nice. Before I got my E46 M3 I test drove a Corvette, not the Z06 though. Even though the vette was a lighter car, the M3 felt lighter. Plus it was just nicer all around so that's what I got. Drove other cars too, but the M3 was the best, IMHO. Never regretted that decision. Right now, if I were to get a two-seater, it would be a Z4 M Coupe or 911S, not the vette. But that's just me. Good luck.

The Z06 really is a beast... it's very easy to go fast in that car. Do you plan to track your car?
The only way to really know is to take a test drive. The two cars feel very different. You're going to sacrifice the precision feel, the technology and the build quality if you go with the Z06... but you will get massive HP and TQ. What truly puts a smile on your face? The M3 is sweet and a great balance of everything. The Z06 is just insane. Insane can be fun. ![]()

ull are makin some good points, and yes ive test driven them both and i also had a c5 vette before the q45 and lastly th3stig can suck my balls.
Now back to the what youll were sayin, i am kind of leaning towards the M3 because in terms of the overall expierence, it trumps the vette, only reason i even gave the z06 a glance is because a part of me still likes raw unadultrated power. I guess the best thing to do is just to testdrive them both one more time, that is if they will allow me. |

I guess you are not man enogh to drive a car with real power that will toast cars costing twice the price.I considered a Z06 which happens to be about $7000 cdn less than my M3 was,but the impracticalities of a 2 seater ruled it out.Drive one before you badmouth a extremly well put together car that is bigtime quick, but I guess you have to Cahones before you could do that![]() |

Having owned 1 C6Z06 (#508) and 2 C5Z06's among a Lotus Esprit V8,
and too many BMW's to count.. including a new E90 M3. Get the M3. The problem with the Z06 isn't the car. It's GM. Period. I could go on for pages, tens of pages - maybe a hundred even! The Z06 is a fun car to drive - and most of those who own them are very much performance oriented drivers - but the quality and backup you get from GM just isn't there. (The Z06 has a different owner than the "regular" 'vette for the most part) Would I own another Z06 - sure as my 5th car. With my first being my E90 M3, my second being Lisa's future X5 3.0SD, and our '00 MZ3 as #3, and my trust Jeep as #4. And I'm sure I'd take even more heat (and s**t) from BMW owners because I owned a Z06 (again) and said nice things about it (again). ![]() |

My Chevy dealer knew I tracked my C5 Z06... I brought it in with "bald" tires, Sparco seats and harnesses for regular maintenance and warranty work too. They thought it was cool. Just like BMW dealers, it depends on the individual dealer. Plus any corner gas station can work on your Vette. Try that with the very complex E92 M3.

You should be looking for $7K to $9K off a Z06 at this point.
Guy on another forum won an auction for a new 08 Z06 for $56K no joke. That's like $18K off many people didn't believe but I don't doubt it's possible. He had a sales recept. I am/was in the same area of doubt if I wanted the M3 (DCT) or some other car such as: 911, Cayman S, Z06 or GTR. I went with the M3 as it's the one car with a REAL back seat. I have wife and two kids so I wanted a 2+2 more than anything else. If that was not an area of need, than the Z06 surely shoots up the list. Here is what I think, say there is a list of cars for ~$70K on one side there is an ultra luxury like a LS460 and the other is no luxury like the Lotus Exige (or such). I have to figure do I want more luxury or more sport? The M3 has a nice blend of both (more leaning to luxury goodies and useful rear seats). The M3 is not as hard edge as many cars but for me mostly used as a DD with as much fun back road blasts as possible. I am not looking for a track racer. I believe the Z06 would be OK as a DD but the M3 better especially with the DCT. |

You won't get heat from me. I think the Z06 is a great car. When you consider performance and price it is a huge bargain. Especially if you know how to drive it and have fun with it. It's kind of funny though that most of the Z06s I see on the highway happen to be driven by, let's say older guys, who happen to be the slowest folks on the road. In the US you can probably find shops that will work on the Z06 for you that do take their work and reputation seriously. So, at least you could sleep a bit easier at night knowing that the GM mechanics won't be banging on your car. But, the Z06 is not as practical or comfortable as the M3. I wouldn't dis anyone for choosing the Z06. But if you want a little more practicality, comfort, luxury, etc. and willing to lose a little performance, then you want the M3.
