19" Rims as excuse for delays likely not accurate

I have seen numerous postings stating or asking if the reason for delays are the 19" rim option. I just wanted everyone to know my experience recently tells us differently so you may want to inquire further.

I ordered my M3 Monday of last week (Apr 14) and it was built immidiately with 19s. In fact it has been produced and should go to shipping soon. This car didn't have 19s ordered until i customized the car.

You probably were assigned to an existing order that already had 19" wheels on it. It could have been a car the dealership ordered, or a customer car that the customer no longer wanted. But that might not be the case and you might be right.

Well, if it isn't the 19s, then how come only orders with 19s are delayed?

Or are you suggesting that's not really the case?

Or... or, maybe its that they are only building cars with 18s because that volume or cars is similar to the volume they'd build able to build because of the real cause of the delay. Oooo - I smell a conspiracy theory!

Yeah who knows how much of the 19" WHEEL option delay is just rumor and how much of it is true.

P.S. The rim is actually just the outside of the wheel.... sorry, I got lectured once on this myself. You really get it when you talk on Porsche forums where there are a lot of 3pc wheels and talking about rims vs wheels is actually referring to two different things.

I think the extended leather is a bit more laughable as an excuse, but what do I know? I mean, out of leather? Really?

It's hard to know what the truth is. 19" wheels, extended leather, M-DCT have all been cited as reasons for delays and yet some, like you, have gotten their cars quickly or have had their build dates moved up. The idea that makes the most sense to me is that they push out build dates conservatively if anything can be projected to be in short demand and then move people up figuring getting the car built earlier rarely makes people mad.

Truth is they are just really low on decklid M badges. Lots of cars sitting in holding lots that just need that damn badge on the rear to be all set

the 19" wheel delay is very true. I get updates on the delay all the time from BMW.

OP must have just gotten lucky.

I just love the BMW delay game 19inch rims, M-DCT, extended leather, M3 floor mats, I know they monitor the site here. Hell here are few more things you come up with AW paint, engines, enhance stereo speakers, rear park sensors, 335i sport seat bottoms (unlikely they think all americans have big asses, oh and the safety excuse is pretty good ), carbon fiber roofs, they can even blame the ship that almost sank and damage all those M3 for a delay, at this rate I really don't care everyone can feel free to give them ideas and more options to come up with for excuses and keep the delay game going. I expect to be and have the last 2008 M3 rolling off the line I find this to be the safest way to look at and wait on my M3 being built

Maybe they are doing a technique like night clubs do, make you wait in line even though the club is not busy to draw bigger crowds. Who knows what is the real reason but I can't imagine all the hold up is from the 19's. I wish someone would really test them out. Change your 19's to 18's and see if it speeds up anything. The 18's look good also.

I got faxed a memo from my dealer dated April 16 that states there is still a shortage of the 19 in wheels and DCT. No mention of extended leather.

I agree - probably if you got delayed your dealer sold your spot to someone else for more $$ and bumped you out!

Ahhh no I'm just a red headed military car sales step child don't worry about me guy I will be alright we are rock bottom or should I say way below rock bottom on the priority and production list. I just finally realize that this is the Norm for us you can order your car today and you would beat me into production and this is a fact thanks anyway and good looking out. I'm going to be here a good long minute.
