I agree that the M3 is a car that can do everything and hit the track on the weekends. But do you really WANT to take a technologically-complex, $70K car on the track? I would say a Lotus Exige S is a technologically-complex, $70K car too - maybe in different ways than the M3, body construction, engine etc. so would you take it on the track?

If one didnt want to track a $60k+ car (viper, vette, porsche, Lotus, Ferarri, etc) then why notjust get a stripped down e36 M3 track car?

Get the Exige Club Racer for the track.

Really your best bet is used miata or S2k, then mod it up for track use. You will have ten times more fun in a car like that. Toss it around with no worries.

Seriously, I think M3 would win by a hairpin. Depends on the track though
