I just got back from a drive, trying to critique the shifter.

1. The throws are definitely not too long.
2. If the stick were any shorter it would be a real pain to operate. It is already a little inconveniently placed IMO.
3. I agree with kbk_75, the effort between 1+2 is considerably more than in any other gear.
4. Downshifting when rev matching is very precise.
5. The stick may appear rubbery in a new car, with 5,000kms on the car now I feel that the shifter feels more precise/less notchy...I suppose this is normal in any new car.

OT, but last night I was pootling about and I felt like my brakes were snatching a bit. I've not observed that before, but just last night I commented that the brakes were feeling "grabby".

Could the brakes feeling grabby have anything to do with bedding them in?

I really hope they bring one out. The shifts we're a bit long and a bit too easy. I like it firm and shorter. Rogue Engineering makes awesome SSK's.

So I went back and test drove again just to concentrate on the shifting and the gearbox to see if I wanted the DCT instead. The MT is not that bad but I would say it's not the best feature of the car. For me the 4-5 shift is longish, I mean I have to reach way out and use my shoulder some cars can be shifted with wrist-elbow action.

I did change my order to the DCT. I was on the fence since I plan to keep my sports car (S2000) so the M3 is going to be a DD for me.

I was going for the MT for it's fun-to-drive and for being cheaper but after looking at it, the MT could have been better so the fun-to-drive was still there but not as much as I wished for.
Hey Rai,

Can you compare and rate this tranny to the s2000's for me please?

I have an AP2 s2000, and i feel like nothing will ever compare to that transmission.

Not sure. But as I drive it more it seems to be going away. Not sure if it's because I am used to it, or if it's wearing in.

Can someone tell me a little more about how the 6MT shifting changes after breakin? I have about 400 miles now and am a little uncomfortable with the 1st and 2nd gear shifting. Especially when returning to 2nd from 3rd. I feel a little notchy grab as I slide back into the gear - not completely smooth. Is this normal, will it go away or am I just not skilled enouigh yet with this gearbox? Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

I have to agree with this statement. I do find the throws a bit too long, soft, and borders on being rubbery. Shifter is not notchy to me at all.
