.... that ISF is a force to be reckon with, too early to predict everything.. M3 is most favored in looks and historical performance

Most forums especially IS and Lexus forums have very positive and nice things to say about the M3 and BMW in general. And why not. It's idiot fanboys and morons like sayemthree that gives BMW a bad rep.

Agreed with Gbb357, I also own an Is300 and am taking delivery of my m3 in April. It's not because my Is was a bad car it's very good at what it does but I was looking for a much more involving car. This applies to the ISF yes it is in the same performance segment as the M3 but it is suited to a different driver. Honestly I feel a true performance car should only be driven with a manual and other will disagree. That's why there are many types of cars to choose from. I have been following the development of the ISF and actually have been very interested in it also. It is a good car but not for me.
Sayemthree, trust me I understand your enthusiasm for the M3, but I do not discredit any other car maker for an attempt at the m3's market. Competition honestly improves our cars. The more they step up the more bmw does and that only improves the car.

fully agree that competition is good - with AMG, Audi and now Lexus close on thier heals it helps keep BMW honest.

its not so much that I discredit any other car maker for an attempt at the m3's market....but the fact that BMW is the target and those that own a Toyota or Lexus need to admit just that - its an attempt.

^^ Of course it's an attempt, what esle would you call it. When you keep calling it a Camry, you're discrediting it.

The IS-F is no M3 but at the same time thinking it's just some boring Lexus is silly. I've have about 700 miles on mine so far and it's a completely different animal compared to the IS350 I had a year or so ago. It may not be quite up to snuff with the M3 but for the price and the fact that it's the first time in production...it's a damn good car.

ISF is based on the IS300 that is based on the Camry. M3 is based on the 328i and 335i.

now that we admit the F is an attempt lets take the next step and admit the F got OWNED by the M3.

You really are a moron. First of all, there is no such thing as an IS300 anymore in the U.S.. And the original IS300 was never base on the Camry. It was based on the Japanese Toyota model that was called the Alteeza. The Camry is front wheel drive only. The IS300 was rear wheel drive only. The current IS250 and IS350 is rear wheel drive only with the exception of the AWD IS250 and the IS is only exclusively made for Lexus. There is no Toyota derived model of it at all. So please do your research before you post your stupidity.

P.S. The ES models where based on the Camry as well as the current ES model right now. So why don't you admit as well that you have no idea what you're talking about.

You're still pretty much off the mark here.

Mercedes started the current power wars, with Audi an eager player and BMW just beginning to get with the program. The M brand is (nearly) legendary, but not broad. The other guys allow broader high-performance choices, with more to come.

Lexus sees the market embracing the hot-car concept, and since they don't have anything to compete in that space, every time someone gets interested in high performance, they lose a buyer. Often someone who was a repeat buyer.

The answer for them is to offer high performance in the Lexus manner, so as not to open up their own offerings to further pirating. Therefore, for instance, the IS-F is automatic only and offers Lexus luxury. The other performance offerings from Lexus are mostly hybrids. If they were shooting for the M3, they'd offer manual transmissions and other items that would allow them to compete more directly. Their solution is not to compete directly with the M3, because from a marketing standpoint that would open them up for further encroachment on their own market - since an M3 clone means you're a me-too outfit.

This way, they get to keep their mainstream buyers who would otherwise have to bolt to another manufacturer if they're looking for speed and handling in addition to their luxury and nearly absolute reliability and dependability.

Sure the nutbooks and industry pundits say they're direct competitors, and if you're new to either brand, so they are. But that ain't why the IS-F came into being.

I still don't understand what's your point of this whole "attempt" issue. But in regards to Lexus getting owned, i already pointed out that it already got owned in another test from Japan when the M3 beat the ISF by 4 seconds. I have posted it on post #37 and #44, clearly you lack comprehension or just plain illiterate. But the fact is, both cars are virtually equal in a straightline race. As i have mentioned before, C&D has gotten the ISF 4.2 to 60 before.

I posted it twice that it got owned, how much more admittance can there be. Why don't you admit that you don't have any clue of what you're talking about. I just called you out on your mistake about calling it a Camry and you're still not man enough to admit that. You really thought that the Camry and the IS, 1nd gen and 2nd gen are the same platform. You really don't know much about cars do you. It doesn't bother me that the IS got owned because i love BMW's as much as i loved Lexus's, that's the only reason i'm here. But i do admit that i like MB's especially the AMG's much more than any other cars out there.

P.S. Better yet, why don't you admit that you're a moron.

I take it back, this guy is not a moron, he's Forrest Gump. How in the world can you not tell the difference between an M5 and an M3. A blind idiot would be able to tell the difference.

I have been a M3 fanboy as you call yourself since the e30 m3. I probably know more about the m3 then you pretend to. My car is here and because I am a true enthusiast I am waiting until April 30 to take performance center deliver, most things new m3 owners would not even consider or even know about. Your arguments make no sense and have no information to back them up.
