Lightbulb E90 M3 sedan, a better performer than the E92?

Now that the M3 sedan (saloon) is being unleased and test driven most of the publications and magazines are posting better performance figures than they did with the E92. I know the sedan is still top of the tree along with the coupe and its engineering proves it, I mean it only weighs 50lbs more than the coupe. But Why is it quicker, have the press guys gotten used to the M3 and know how to more aggressively better?

Either way it still kicks ass, though the purists may call it a sell out.

The M3 Coupe is where it all started.

I have the M5 already so to me the M3 Sedan is an M5 lite

To really compare two cars they needed to be tested in identical conditions with identical drivers. Just because the E90 did better in one test doesnt mean its better all the time or in every environment.

e92 M3 = jessica alba
e90 M3 = jessica biel

so this argument is pointless. doesn't matter which one you pick, you will end up with something HOT.

now flame away! lol

Contradicts E92 debut press material; coupe 30% stiffer.

Huh? The E30 M3 coupe was (and still is) one of the best handling, most entertaining drives around.

I find it hard to believe the coupe would be 30% than the sedan in the e9x line up.
I cannot find the BMW source, but here's two reviews:

http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....rticle_id=3948
http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...ticleId=116129

My memory failed me, its 25% not 30%.

x2 - coupes always are stiffer due to the larger door openings required for four doors (without weight adding reinforcement)

best test for the coupe I have seen is 0-60 in 4.1 which bests the recent sedan test.

the coupe is almost 2 inches lower than the sedan and with CF roof vs moonroof it will have a lower center of gravity. the copue also has closer to 50-50 wt balance so the coupe should handle better too.

its awesome the provide a choice but the coupe should have a slight edge in performence.

e46 sedans are stiffer than the coupes but with the e90/92's, the coupe is claimed to be stiffer by 25% compared to the sedan

But wasn't the e46 sedan stiffer than the e46 coupe due to the b-pillar location?
IIRC that only applies to sedan's w/o fold down rear seats. i think all coupe e46's had fold down rear seats.

hypothetically coupe w/o fold down rear seats = stiff as sedan w/o fold down rear seats.

BMWs own measurements have the coupe .1 secs faster. They make notice to it a couple of times in the M3 brochure.

I like them both, but I'm opting for the sedan.
