Only 4.7 sec to 60mph on BMW site....
This can't be accurate. The last M3 did it in 4.8. I know there's always all different tests for these and its been discussed before but does anyone know what the accurate time to 60 is?

This horse has been beaten to death. BMW understates their "official" 0-60 time. Their "official" time for the E46 M3 was 5.1secs. There are many magazines that have done much better than 4.7 secs. I believe one even hit 4.1 or 4.2. Either C&D or R&T.

I remember it being that when it first came out, but they did revise it to 4.8 later on the website. Maybe this one will come down over time. Definitely conservative. and "achievable" by almost anyone.

Most do underestimate....those that don't (aka the Ford fiasco with the rated hp figures) pay the price.

That is good to know. I am considering replacing my car and was hoping the M3 would be in the low 4's. Looks like it is right there!

This is not a 0-60 car. The 996 GT3 was not a 0-60 car. The new M3 with its V8 is more of a mid-range small GT car with great handling.

Yeah, it is close...closer than I thought...which is awesome!
The best I have seen printed was 3.9. Most mags put it 4.1 - 4.3. Depends on the driver, conditions, etc, etc, etc. If the M is in the mid 4'ish range, I would be happy. Plus, with mods, etc. etc., and DCT, one could get that down even more. :-) Ah, also, I have seen my car at 11.9 in the 1/4 mile, but most mags are about 12.1. It aint that I drag race the car, its just for comparisons sake. I used to be a track rat...but have not had the time for it. Hell, last year I did not go one time....the year before that I was instructing and attending track days ALL THE TIME....times change I guess.

You're right, the car does not run a 4.7, however BMW never claimed that it did. The 335 is hardly overrated, if anything, it's underrated, since they routinely dyno much higher than advertised. Don't get me wrong, I don't believe that a 335 is in the same league as an M.

yeah just like the BMW website have the 335 0-60
5.3 manual 5.5 auto and we know the clock 4.9 0-60 stock and the auto is faster than the stick BMW is always conservative with the times, I'm sure the M3 will be faster than what's posted |

Hmmm ?
All these numbers sound great, but never same them real... i had 5,9sec 0-100kmh ( 0 -62mph) on a 335i with automatic ( i guess, there is no realy difference caused by the driverskill and the conditions were good: about 20 c° and dry climate). i still cant belive something like 4.1sec for the m3 in 0-60mph. 4,7 sounds optimistic, but 4,1-4,5 ... ? Thats the level of a 997gt3... What means "good" conditions to you? |

Not everything, which is written, is right.
I think there is a difference between 0-60mph and 0-100kmh ( ~ 0-62mph). But .6 sec? Many good carmagazines tell times of about 4,8 sometimes 4,7 ( very optimistic ones 4,6). But 4,1 ? Would this mean 4,4 in 0-62 mph? Canīt imagine this without tuning! |
