Besides the e92 M3, what other cars would you consider below $70k?
Considering that the MSRP would be around $65k-$70k, i'm guessing of course, these would be my other possible choices for myself.

Nissan GTR While the corvette is a great car I personally would never own one. The RS4 is amazing but it's on its way out so if I was into it I would probably tough it out and wait for the 8E chassis version. As for the infiniti... that car is just trying too hard.

I really wished I liked the Corvette more. Don't get me wrong, the performance of the Z06 is breathtaking for $75 large. However, I'm just not "that guy". Having owned a Boxster S before I'm somewhat drawn to the Cayman S, but it needs more power. None of the Audi's interest me nor does the hideous looking IS-F.
For me it's either a Cayman S or the M. And since I'm still waiting.....

Cadillac CTS-V (supposed to have M5 beating performance at M3 beating price) S5 when dual clutch comes out 335 fully optioned w/ BMW 20-spoke rims and DINAN flash I would love to say Cayman S, but I need a back seat

LOL if only we paid $70k for them here!!
My theory is BMW makes nothing on the USA cars they sell then reams the rest of the world to cover it! M3 here in NZ is $125,800 USD before ANY options are applied. You guys are lucky! |

Most of the dealership's cashcows aren't the initial sale of the car, but rather the service and maintenance that then ensues. While this is a separate entity from BMW AG, it's still linked since they have to order parts from the factory.

Sorry, these price conversion comparisons don't make much sense, and are getting old. You have to take standards of living into account (who pays for your social security, education and health/child care, etc?). And what is your salary worth in dollars compared to what it was worth 5 years ago?

We dont have govt. healthcare other than accidents and emergencies. What exactly is your point? The fact is BMW's margins in cars other than the USA have to be considerably higher. |

There are other cars I'd consider, but the primary alternative would be a 335i. What other 2-door, four seaters are there? Basically the GTR or G37, A5 or S5. Not much else out there. I suppose there is Mustang, Challenger and Camaro, but would prefer to stay in the entry luxury or above segments.
If I could consider a two seater like the Corvette, Z4 or Cayman S, then I would have been in one long ago and never even considered the M3.

Doing a direct conversion between currencies is simplistic and inaccurate if you really are trying to judge the impact of puchasing this car on someone's budget (and calling them lucky). That's the point.
You might or might not be right on the margins. In some countries like Denmark, the car is expensive not because BMW is charging more, but because the government is taxing at an ugly rate. I know for a fact that college doesn't cost zip over there for instance. You know what it costs here? And again, what is your salary now worth in dollars compared to 5 years ago? Etc. |

I seriously doubt GT-R will sell < $70K.
Mine would be: * Cayman S (that chassis and steering, but underpowered) * used RS4 * used 911 * S5 * 335i and mod the hell out of it
