The M3 will not have the Top HiFi system, either standard or optional. The jump is from 10 speakers, analog amp, to 16 speakers, digital amp... expect something around $1900 ($1200 + $700) for this option.

In the brochure he linked to, it states the 10-speaker system is standard. Same thing as in the M5 and the upgrade there is $700. It's obviously reasonable to expect the same dollar amount for the M3.
The M5 standard audio system is Logic7...

That might be accurate. Two level jump it looks like. Not cool. Wonder why they wouldn't make Logic7 standard on the M3? Then that makes you have to really fork over for anything above the cheesy base stereo. Unless they aren't planning on charging a crazy amount for the Premium?

Still bugs me that Logic7 is standard on the 335 but not the M3 according to the current brochure.

Either way, "premium" formeplz.

It was the same "nickel and dime" in the E46 M3 and the Harman Kardon system...

Arghhh, my badd...I wasn't talking about that, I was talking about this.

"Good news: for upgrading with aftermarket, the HiFi is perfect."

How did you arrive at this conclusion and can you provide details.
The base 10 speaker system also has two subs...
Thanks.

And did you mean swapping the system out? Swapping amps and speakers or what? Have an idea on the cost range and who can perform this upgrade without tearing the car up?

The good thing about the HiFi system is that regardless of having iDrive or not the OEM amp inputs are analog, therefore that amp can be easily replaced with aftermarket.

In the Top HiFi/Enhanced the amp inputs are digital, thus so far the only way of adding aftermarket amps is to tap at the amps analog outputs, sum channels and "de-EQ" the heavy processed sound into a flat, full signal before adding aftermarket amps. That "de-EQ" would require a professional with an RTA or if you are confident and skilled enough, this can be done DYI and automatically with the the JL Audio Cleansweep, the Alpine Imprint processor or the RF 3SIXTY.2 just before the aftermarket amp(s).

There is no aftermarket digital interface right now that can get the unprocessed signal before reaching the amp.

Other than this, the OEM speakers -all- are no problem replacing.

So my advice is to not get the Enhanced Audio if you are planning to upgrade the OEM audio deeper than just adding a sub in the trunk anyways. It will be not only a waste of money, but it will cost you more money to upgrade from that platform. At least that's what I'm doing...

Seriously, do you think adding a sub to the trunk is an "upgrade" to the indivudal audio?

If so, you better make sure it finds the natural frequency of the trunk lid to add to that high-end sound!

With all due respect, I see neither the amusement or your point. Adding subs in the trunk is common in all type of vehicles, be low end or high end.

Whether common or not, doesn't mean that it's best for sound quality nor does it mean that it's not considered somewhat tacky.

To each his own, but I'm rather tired of the pimp my ride bass amplifiers.

There's a difference between aiming for high SPL bass and quality bass. Generally, manufacturer sound systems have neither. I don't want my "speakerbox to rattle like aluminum cans in a bag," I want clean, tight, accurate bass at a good volume relative to the rest of the sound. I replaced all the drivers and added a subwoofer/amp to my E46. What a PITA, cutting all the wires, etc. took all day and I was a master at breaking those little door clamp/peg gizmos. I don't want to do it again, but if I have to add a subwoofer, so be it.

Tacky like this...

... or this:

At the end of the day, is what you want that counts not somebody else opinion. However, there's a big difference in what is tacky and what is simply not.

I don't know, but I'm sick of hearing about people's personal preference when it comes to subs in a trunk.
