cui gives a sh1t what it looks like. I grow attached to things that WORK well. I like the current SMG's shifter... because it works. Sure, it looks cool... but this one looks decent enough that if it works well I'll love it. I can't WAIT. I just hope they don't reduce the head room... I'm 6-3, and the 6-series i test drove had less head room, too little for me. Hopefully, they won't reduce the headroom in the 2008 M3 from the current fit... that would be TERRIBLE! I am SO eager to feel the DCT... how it initiates in 1st, when it shifts BACK in to first after traveling slowly... just a lot of scenarios that I expect them to improve.

Autocar also state that the M3 will be relased in the UK in November 2007. Hmm, reliable? Accurate? Nah. I keep a copy of autocar in the John in case I run out of paper.

M DCT release timing
Received this note today from a salesperson that does military sales.
"The factory have told us that the DTC transmission will be released at least 6 months after the M3 launch. It will be for the 2009 model at the end of next year or early 2009." For what it's worth. I have no idea how reliable his information is as I have no prior experience with this military sales company. (Superior) |

Great news because it means that U.S M3's will probably be launched with both M-DCT and 6 Speed. Also, I would say 0-60 should be around the 4.1 mark with this baby considering 4.3 seconds was possible in the 6 speed.

The good news, as I see it, is that this delay will allow me to lease an e92 335 for 2 years and proceed it while waiting for M-DCT. During this time, I forsee M3 sales in the US being far slower than BMW is anticipating, meaning M3's will be sitting next to M5's, M6's, and Z4M's on dealer lots and prices starting to decline. We'll see.
