Limp mode...due to alternator?
Last week my M3 started giving me the reduced power, DSC, amber brake light and 4500 rpm redline periodically. It would either happen after about 15-30 minutes of driving, or immediately if it was taken to high revs. Have a maxcare warranty, so I dropped it off and the bmw dealership for diagnosis.
The dealer is now telling me that its due to the alternator. Does this sound right to anyone? I was expecting to hear it was the idle control valve, as the symptoms I was getting are typical for that

Update:
After fixing the alternator and replacing some gaskets, they discovered it was tripping due to the throttle actuator valve. Of course, they still need to wait for MaxCare to come out again and approve the repair. I'm enjoying my Kia Soul rental in the meantime.
