If they bring that to the US, that would be sick. For the E46, we had to order the wiring harness from Germany, etc. etc., just to get the NAV to display TV. It was a pain in the ass.

Yep. The BMW TV module has a analog and digital TV tuner inside allowing you to pick up over the air TV in your BMW. The TV tuner antennas are either mounted in the rear bumper or the rear window depending on the model.
This isn't something thats exclusive to the M3, its being available across the model range, and was first introduced in the 7er, back in 1999. The digital tuner was introduced around 2004/5 ish ... if memory serves. For safety reason, depending on territory, once the car goes over 3mph and/or the handbrake is released the picture blanks out, although the TV sound can still be heard. |

just dont see the point. Everything is repeated nowadays so you never miss anything and i can think of at least 42 better things to do off the top of my head than sit in a car a watch TV. I assume the one in the M3 is the same as all other BMW's in that it switches off once you go over 5mph?

No one likes or wants to wait, but it still happens. Gridlock, waiting to pick someone up, show up too early for something. You could even turn on a news channel to help with traffic or something. The benefit of the TV in your car would be to make these unpleasant times more enjoyable.

He obviously doesn't think outside the box. I spend enough time in my car to warrant such a feature. |

This has nothing to do with TV addiction. It's all about convenience. Either you like it or you don't.
I would love to have it come as an option on the US-spec M3 but I highly doubt it. My wife's van has a Built in DVD player in the rear for the kids. When the parking brake is on the nav screen up front also displays the DVD. When I am waiting to pic someone up it gives you something to do kill the time. I think the OTA would be even better as you could check live weather ad traffic reports etc. |
