Don't put plastidip on your exhaust tips if you track the car

This is probably obvious, but I decided to try it out anyway since PD is so cheap and I wanted the corsa tips to match my wheels (which have actually held up pretty well, including on track). There are numerous reports of people dipping the exhaust tips with success, and up until I tracked it it worked on the M3 fine. I probably had it on there 3-4 weeks prior to track use, and it looked great.

One 20 minute session was enough to turn the plastidip tips to white ashy looking dust. It looked terrible and necessitated a scrub down with some cleaning agents. I didn't take any after pics, but it looked ridiculous.

Anyway, probably obvious to people with more sense than me, but don't dip your exhaust tips if you track the car.

i dont think people should pd their wheels either, track of not. What if the wheel develop micro cracks? You would never be able to tell.

Plastidip doesn't belong on any part of a car. Thats the type of crap we did in high school.

It is a daily driver, and with black wheels, side gills, and front grills it looks much better to have the exhaust tips black too.

PD actually looks pretty good. The "doesn't belong on a car of this stature" crowd needs to get over yourselves, it is a 7-8 year old chassis that can be had for low $30k's, maybe even less. Only $8k BBS's belong on a $30k car, right?

Plastidip looks pretty good to me. Note that these tips were pre-track, but with some street driving. Everything matte black on the car is PD.

Wouldn't ceramic be a better option?

[I am going to plastidip my license plates too now - looks awesome!]

haha can't be too safe, right? No red light tickets here!

The game plan is header paint (which I believe is ceramic?)

I'd like to have them powder coated, but dropping an exhaust is such a PITA, as is managing to get just the tips coated when they are welded on.

Now I wanted to coat my exhaust tips, dammit. There's paint that can do that too. Of course it means taking the whole thing off to stop over spray. So that's going to take a while!

I hate you!

If you tape off the lower bumper pieces with painters tape I bet you could do a spray job w/o dropping the exhaust. That's definitely my plan. Removing the whole cat back again doesn't sound fun.

As they say in meetings at work..."I'll let you take the lead with that one"
