Help! - Engine malfunction! Reduced power. Increased emissions.

I was hoping someone could help me figure out what's going on intermittently with my 2009 e92 m3.

Sometimes when I start the car the following happens:
1. The RPM redline moves to 4500 rpm
2. A half lit engine light pops up
3. A yellow (not red) brake light comes and stays on (even after I put the handbrake down)
4. Service engine soon lights up
5. DSC is disabled
6. The message 'Engine malfunction! Reduced power. Increased emissions.' is displayed on the navigation screen

Now if I turn the car off and on most of the time the above won't happen and everything will start up normal; however, there has to be something wrong if it keeps doing this from time to time.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Are you able to read codes? I had #2 #4 and #6 (honestly can't remember about the rest) and it turned out to be a faulty O2 sensor.

No. It doesn't happen all the time so I haven't bothered going anywhere to scan the codes. Maybe next time it happens I'll run over to Advanced Auto Parts.

You may want the codes read even if the car seems to be fine, they don't always trigger warning lights. Is the car under extended warranty? Are you the original owner? Any history of the car being checked by dealer for this?

Sweet collection of cars, by the way. I take it you like Alpine White.

Mine does this sometimes, as my throttle actuator on bank1 is going bad. Warranty company won't replace it yet since is not completely failed yet.

You'll have to scan for codes before we can help you. There are a bunch of things that could be causing your car to go into limp mode. =(

This

And even if the car doesn't trigger the warning lights, the car will store the codes so they will pop up on a scanner whenever you get the chance to go.

Most likely throttle actuator, pretty common in e9x M3s
