Could I be close to getting a cheque from BMW financial?

Some here no doubt think that dealers and BMW NA can be difficult to deal with. Well, nothing compares to BMW financial. I've been trying to get my security deposit back on a lease from a 1998 E36 M3 that was terminated in the fall of 2000 when I bought an E46 M3 for close to fourteen years now. All of $900.

I called them every year or so, and no one got back to me. Finally, while cleaning out a second house we're putting up for sale this spring I found the cheque - my wife had mislaid it. I emailed BMW financial in April. In May they emailed me back and asked me to send them the cheque. I sent it to them through my dealer. And waited. Then I emailed them back. And waited.

Today I phoned. The guy on the phone was quite helpful: he sent me the discharge for the lease! Wow, glad I'm not still on the hook! He couldn't find the previous email chain. (Yeah really.) No confirmation that they received the cheque (I kept a photocopy). Anyway, he's going to escalate this. Well, so he says - but he sent me the email through a non-returnable address.
