Guys, it's not about the 335 or the M3...It's all about the 1er!

Joking aside, I've not driven an M3 but I've driven an N51, N52, N54, and N55. I'll have to say that I definitely prefer the NA response for daily driving. It's not like I'll use or need all 300lb. ft. of torque for daily driving. This is true for me despite the NAs lack of the turbo/torque thrust.

I do find the turbo cars more enjoyable though.

YES! the 1m, 135 335i guys are loving this car. Its like all that matters now is how great a trubo motor makes power. AND how much i can gain with a tune.

Yes 600 HP is nice but on the road course you will hardly be able to harness all that power unless there are long straights.

Slow it down hero. First of all, following your logic bugatti veyron should be the fastest car around a track period...NOT THE CASE.

Second, I come from E46 M3, followed by E92 M3 and I'm about jump in a new version. I also track a fair amount annually. Granted I did not have my E92 supercharged but word around different tracks is it does very little if anything to improve your lap times.

Come to think of it your comment leads me to believe that you might not have experienced any track outings.

A supercharger does not just increase peak hp. If you take the e9x M3 on road courses enough, you'd quickly realize the chassis is overbuilt for the stock power(this is often echoed and I do agree). Hence a bump in overall "area under the curve" has a much bigger impact as that increase is catching up to the chassis. Additionally, the effect of an increase in weight up front is marginal at best, especially if you corner balance the vehicle.

I think it's reach to say the E9X chassis was overbuilt for the stock power. If that were the case the solid subframe bushing mods wouldn't be as popular as they are getting, and the new generation of M cars are moving to solid mounts. Not to mention the countless chassis mods that are out there. I'd say the stock chassis for it's intended purpose is probably just right with maybe a little margin for more.

Increasing weight to the front is still increasing weight to the front as it has a multiplying effect as speed, cornering forces, and braking forces are applied. Maybe only a few circuits with long straights can fully exploit the increases in HP that SC's can give over the car stock where once would consider it an "advantage". But usually higher speeds mean longer braking zones, so you're giving up something somewhere. Plus more power means traction is at a greater premium (as if it weren't already) so cars with considerable increases in power won't be picking up the throttle as quickly as a less powerful vehicle assuming potential grip is equal.

The F8X will make a better road car than the E9X. Turbo tq, better fuel range and improved gadgets and features. Stock to Stock, it may even make a better track car - if not a rival, than at least an equal. Plus the flared fenders and double bubble roof...

Shouldn't this be a given though? the new should be better!

my biggest problem with the F80 is the sound. one of the big reasons i love N/A engine is for that RICH sound. i can deal with turbo lag, turbo sound, but not that muted exhuast note idk. and the sound that does get through the turbos is pure rice.

i cant stand that sound, does that mean i will keep my E92 forever? no chance. just will move on to another car that is faster and sounds great.

stock for stock, the F80 is going to beat the E90 in every measurable way. but saying that the F80 can keep up with a supercharged, 600+hp E90 is a stretch. I had a supercharged M and tracked it about 10 times/year. I would bet money that the F80 would struggle to keep up with it on most tracks. that's just such a huge increase in power to try to overcome with the new generations weight savings. on an autocross I would bet the F80 would be faster, but the longer the track the more the S/C E90 would pull away, and I don't think there are many tracks short enough that the F80 would would be faster.

truly a pointless thing to argue about, however. the new M's are going to spank the E90's stock for stock, and that's what counts. once we start comparing modded vs. modded, the F80 will still hold an advantage, but I'm not sure that its driveability will be preserved like it was with the E90. the greatest thing about the E90 S/C systems is that it preserved 100% of the throttle response and the predictable, flat torque curve. I have a feeling that when you really up the power on this new generation (possibly with bigger turbos) it will become a bit tricky to drive fast.

There is no way a m4 keeps up with a 600hp SC e9x m3. Rb turbo 335's can't and they have more power than a m4. The m4 is a good car, it will be fast, but it's definitely different than the NA m's. I'm not sure yet if it's bad, it's just different.
