speculation: fbo e9x vs f80?

Before bids start rolling in, what's everyone's prediction of a rolling race of FBO e92 vs f80? Obviously has to be near seal level for comparo otherwise turbo would have an advantage.

I think the f80 will be faster bit not as much faster than the e9x was to the e46 or f10 to the e60 m5.

Cat less and a tune really adds a solid 25 whp which is great compared to most.

Id be pleasently surprised if e9x at least stayed within camera shot and not having to video the red view mirror!

Relatively close with the edge to the F80 from a roll based on nearly same HP and lower weight (less importance of torque). No contest from a dig IMHO (high torque + improved LC) makes the F80 a clear winner.

FBO E9x M3 will be very close. Actually SportAuto does these tuner tests and one of the famous Bavarian tuners, a-workx/Wieth racing, has tested its FBO E92 M3 were beat the Hockenheim time of the M3 GTS, and in its own testing puts up some very similar straight line numbers to the F80 M3/4

Also, have done quite a bit of logging on my own vehicle and from 6,700 rpm to 8,600 rpm, using BavTec to log actual moment calculations, produces over 400 hp+ in that range, and probably an average of ~425 bhp with power being very flat and close to ~435-440 max from 7900-8500 rpm. Gear shifts on the MT due to raised RPM limit hit about 6,600 rpm in the next gear, so DCT would be even better and would be producing well over 400 bhp at the 6,900-7,000 rpm level after downshift

Of course I recognize an apple to apples means a tuned f80 would destroy an e92 but many of us have FBO e92s and frankly when I get my f80 I wouldn't modify a tune with a turbo. They are too aware and its too easy to monitor tunes. Our e92 I don't feel tunes put much stress on anything and BMW really isn't hyper aware of them.

Either way, I frankly just don't like the look of the new m4. I much prefer the e92 sound and power delivery of non turbo. So if a FBO e92 basically puts down same power as an f80, Id personally opt to drive my e92 much longer and perhaps skip the f80 and wait until the next m5. From a roll, dct, cat less, tuned e92 with even 50-100 pounds weight loss us a force to be reckoned with.

I obliterated a non pp c63 the other week and easily pulled and took a PP c63 with no trouble. FBO really wakes this bad boy up. Throw in 95 plus octane and keep plugs fresh and my bet may actually be on the e92>f80

I have a FBO 335is and once My M4 gets to miami I will be doing a few races between the 2. will post videos

In a rolling race, I would think a FBO DCT E9x would not be far behind a DCT F8x, but in a manual vs manual race, the E9x would have no show, the gears are just too long and the S65 misses some power in the midrange!

And finally a FBO DCT E9x vs manual F8x would probably be an equal race I think!
