WTF is Windows Live?!
I wanted to set up a hotmail account for my father. No problem, but I get linked to a Windows Live screen that seems to ATTEMPT to link hotmail with MSN Messenger, and Windows Security.
Either I accidentally typed the wrong name, or the buggy software changed the last name on the account. I go to Account summary, and it indefinitely hangs trying to load msn messenger, linked windows live IDs, and some Security items. WTF? The only plain and simple thing about Microsoft is the fact that it sucks eggs. Anyone have any idea what this Windows Live thing is about? Last edited by ksfrogman; 10-22-2007 at 11:52 PM. |

Windows Live replaces the old Windows Messenger. Actually it's now Windows Live Messenger. And maybe you know live.com is now Microsoft's bigger better search engine in competition with Google. Sooooooooooo essentially a lot of crap got rebranded.
Not sure what to tell you... perhaps try uninstalling Windows Messenger and try again. I don't remember it trying to setup any security or Messenger stuff when I signed up for hotmail (more on that below). A little offtopic but just to give you an idea of how far-reaching this crap is: in order to setup an XBOX Live (XBL) account you're forced into signing up for a hotmail account to link to your XBL gamertag. Way to boost the number of Live (err hotmail, umm I'm confused) accounts. At least this is what I faced when I got my 360... in the past I was using a non-hotmail address for XBL!

Thanks for the info. I wasn't trying to upload or install any messenger program. I simply tried to open a hotmail account for my dad. When I signed in, it said "Welcome Tom Link," but his last name is not LINK. When I clicked on the accounts button, it sent me to another page that tries to upload msn messenger, all "live accounts," and other crap. WTF?! Screw it. I decided to get him a Yahoo.com account, and F Microsoft.
Now the problem is that I will soon get a XBox 360, and from what I see here, I'll have to get a hotmail account. Here we go again. |

I have a Mac G4 Powerbook, and would get another, but for online gaming, and software, I now own PCs, because the software support for them reminds me the days of the Apple ][ Plus, Apple //e, and even the fat Mac. Unfortunately, Windows, initially a buggy and less eloquent version of the Mac OS, has become industry standard for business and common people.

Although 98SE was much, MUCH better than WinME (not saying much, however).

Windows 98 Second Edition and ME were simply bug fixed versions of the initial Windows 98 and still unstable. Win 2K and XP (which if I remember correctly is based off of the 2000 architecture) are much more stable.
