From e9X M3 to 997 Carrera 4S?

Has anyone on here gone from an e9X M3 to a 997 Carrera 4S? Awesome decision? Regrets? I posted on here not too long ago that I have been looking at 07-08 911 turbos and 09-10 GTRs but the Carrera 4S caught my attention as I can get an 09-10 for around the same price as the GTR and I kinda like that it has a fast NA engine with the PDK tranny. I was considering another M3 and supercharging it but not quite sure I want to go that route. Thanks!

2013 e92 M3  [5.00]
2011 997.2 Turbo S  [4.75]
2013 WRX STi  [4.00]
2013 BMW X5  [0.00]
All seem like great choices.

Going from the M3 to a Porsche or GTR seems like a natural "progression". I for one prefer a modded e92 M3 DCT (with S/C, BBK, exhaust) a lot better as I believe it is more "connected". All my friends who drive in both my cars say the same thing, even though my P-car is faster.

That's interesting that you say that. I've always felt more or less the same thing. The PDK from your car, even the new 991s, seem a little dull in excitement. Doesn't feel as mechanical as our DCT.

I've never driven a GTR so I couldn't tell you how that gearbox felt.

But DCT is by far my favorite automatic transmissions, since I haven't driven Ferrari's F1/DCT, the new GT3, or 12C yet.

If you were to go stick though, then Porsche takes the cake by a mile. It feels so much better, and a 991s in stick is a such a different animal then it in PDK.

Yeah Porsche addressed the PDK issues with the 991's. The PDK-S feels more like the Getrag DCT in our cars and that's why it's equipped on the GT3 as the only trans option.

The PDK shifts fast and can hold a TON of power that's for sure, but the paddle shifting driver engagement fees like there is a torque converter in there...in fact it feels exactly like in my 2010 335 6AT.

I wonder if there is a software calibration available via a tuner that can make your pdk (long boarder) more aggressive?

Good question.....I think it's both a hardware issue - in terms of how the paddles connect to the steering wheel, and a software issue - in that there is a delay from when you pull the paddles to when the shift actually occurs. Bugs the crap out of me because the DCT shift is instantaneous and I can "feel" the shift in my fingers.
