Well, its partly because of the altitude. The M3 will be effected more by altitude than the 335i because it is naturally aspirated.

That doesn't explain it. The RS4 is naturally aspirated and beats the 335 and the M3...

Is the RS4's engine somehow not affected as much by altitude?

How do you figure the RS4 was uneffected as much by altitude? 5.4s 0-60 is completely weak-nuts for an RS4, just like 5.6s 0-60 is weak for an M3.

The RS4 could beat the M3 in a given test at 0 feet above sea level too, depending on the track used and the metrics we are comparing, so the fact that it does so at altitude is not such a surprise. The only big surprise I find from the article is that the 335i seems to suffer (in 0-60 test) at altitude much the way the two naturally aspirated cars do. That part doesn't really make sense. I would be interested to see more high altitude 335i tests to see if this is merely a fluke.

No no I completely agree with you.. I'm just surprised that the RS4 ended up still slightly quicker than the 335 and that the M3 only tied it. You are completely right about the metrics tho. I guess this just gets back to the whole 335 v M3 arguement.

Ok cool.. Thx
