rod bearings from a 59k mile motor

Car was in driver front incident with a curb that totalled the car. That is all the info I have on the history of this motor. These bearing were replaced with stock 702/703 bearing that were WPC treated. Also replaced the rod bolts with ARP ones (main reason for digging in). Will be running straight 40 weight Redline racing oil as this is going into a race car.

Here are the bearings. Cylinder 1 on the right, 8 on the left. Top bearings are on the bottom, bottom bearings on the top (just to confuse you). Bearing 4 has some serious wear on it.

Ouch. I'll add those to the photo registry. But before I do, when you labeled them 1-8 -- is that assembly order, or firing order?

Assembly order would be: 1&2, 3&4, 5&6, and 7&8 on the same journal.
Firing order would be: 1&5, 2&6, 3&7, 4&8 on the same journal.

3&4 have me confused then because they look like they were on the same journal -- as they look like they have almost the same wear. Just trying to dot the i's here...because I will probably pull the photo apart into separate bearing pics for the journal.

Do you have any separate bearing pics to send via email?

The 2 banks have similar wear (top 4 vs bottom 4). Interesting how they are similar that way versus the cylinder on the opposite side of the same journal. 100% sure that is 1 to 8 bottom to top- I marked them on the way out.

For 60k miles in an engine like this those bearings look really good. Easily if that rate of wear continued, the engine would see atleast another 60k. This engine did not blow up and was working fine I am sure.

I'm not a mechanical engineer but I would not assume it normal for any street car to have bearing wear down to the copper after 60k.

Seriously, that deep into the copper is not something that is going to yield another 60k of service life. That one rod would spin that bearing well before any additional 60k miles. See, it's stuff like this which seriously lowers the level of discourse on this forum...sadly...although most likely a post like this one is simply done to stir up flames since the poster has multiple identities along with a tainted past on the M5board under other usernames. Apparently M3post does not mind people having multiple identities on this board since they are aware of the situation.

What is this based on? Sounds like complete garbage to me. If you look at the pictures that EAS has provided on their engine tear downs, I'm sure that oil analysis would have yielded a very high copper level. That is NOT fine.
