Used car warranty for E92 M3

Hi guys, after reading threads about actuators, bearing issues and general worry with the V8 engine. It got me thinking, is it worth getting a warranty for my car??

Obviously its way gone out of date with the original new car.

So is it worth getting something else for it?
Will it cover for those kinds of problems?

Never had any breakdown cover or even thought of warranty with my previous used cars cause they were not that expensive and never that expensive to repair out of my own pocket.

But this is a different price category for me. Me worried.

Thanks

Depends on how well the car was maintained, and generally what peace of mind you want.

Lots of guys will say they'd never own one out of warranty, and others will talk about how bulletproof our cars are.

I have an 08 with 57k, and it's been perfectly maintained, but most it's seen is a bad sensor and ignition coil.

stop worrying and enjoy the car .....if it breaks get it fixed, life too short to worry about car repairs

joke aside if the car is maintain well doubt anything major will need fixing .

the only warranty you should take out is BMW extended warranty.

I do mate.
Drive it every day and pretty hard but fair most of the times.
Fill her up with the best fuel there is.
Is very well maintained, all serviced and cleaned every other week or more!

Just suddenly dawned on me if something creeps up it might cost a fortune that's all.

BMW extended warranty is for new cars isn't it?

you could always ring Bmw to see if you can purchase it , I had my car from new and was out of Warranty in Dec last year , because i dont do huge mileage (4k a year)I never bother to get the extended warranty .

as I've said if you maintain it properly it should be fine (touch wood).

off topic are you chinese ?

I might just go in one day and ask

It is maintained well, just worried that one day I can't afford to repair it.
Love the car so much and need it every single day.

Yup Chilese. How did you know? Am I banned now?

Dude I got a 08 E92 M and I asked the dealer about it last weekend, with my mileage at 82,992 dude said looking around 5G's for 100k. But then again just maintain the car, all I've had since I owned the car was a fuel rail pressure sensor replacement out of warranty. Easy DIY and not that expensive. It's up to you bro

Extended warranties on M3's cost an absolute fortune - can't remember exactly, but when mine was 3years old, BMW quoted me about 1,000 for an extended warranty - that only lasts for one year! I didn't take it out and the car's coming up to 5years old now, so I've now got an imaginary 2,000 saved up if something goes wrong.

As others have said, it depends how much milleage you do and how hard you drive the car. I only do about 5k a year so not overly concerned...

Sounds like a hella lot. Probably just save and use the money if something does come up! And might work out cheaper.

Mine is 924 per year - so far this year, I've had a coil pack and a throttle actuator changed, cost to me was 200 for the excess (two separate incidents) for 1800 of work.

I'm on 56k miles and don't drive too hard - I'll be keeping the warranty going

So you saved 670~ from the normal cost if you didn't have the warranty. Still good.

... been reading horror stories on the Internet about bearing and DCT gearbox issues (not that I have any of those *touch wood*! But once again got me thinking about warranty issues.

I've entered my number plate and mileage on it and it gave me the following quotes:

- 1 year / 1044.20 Comprehensive inc. Emergency Service, 250 excess
- Monthly / 95.43 (works out as 1145.16 a year, 100 more) Comprehensive inc. Emergency Service, 250 excess

- 1 year 934.21 Comprehensive, 250 excess no recovery option, 94 more if paid monthly basis

Doesn't sound too bad! Thought it would cost more than that. But I'm always skeptical about what is covered. I always feel like they would say or blame something on the user and make me pay at the end of the day.

- any item that has worn out rather than suffered from a defect. If i had the bearing issue, would that classify as worn out after 7 years and 50k miles driving??

Brake, clutch facing... seems like nothing is covered except for a few parts on the engine basically? Nothing on the exhaust is covered. Okay maybe the drivetrain, gearbox stuff is covered but that's about it. Not even the glass or anything.

I just took one out with WarrantyWise today for 800 a year and it covers 5000 per claim with no access and 150ph garage labour.

Its nice to have that little piece of mind that should something go wrong with the car.

To you guys think i should get cover for a larger amount or would most repairs cost under 5000 excluding labour charge.

WarrantyWise seem to have the best feedback online also.
