My Passport saved me from a ticket yet again...seems like the cops are out more and more. I guess it makes sense given the bad shape the local and state finances are in. Just another way to get revenues!

I stuck with the OG and went V1 5 years ago...saved my ass every time since then! Couldn't be happier! I use it primary for freeway use around the Bay Area and for long drives/trips.

wanted to update on my thoughts of Escort Live vs Waze after using the paid subscription for Escort Live for several days.

First the good
1) "Police Spotted" on both Waze and Escort Live appeared on both apps at about the same time since they share data bases... didn't seem to be much time lag between the two
2) Escort Live actually also shows Ka/ Laser/ Lidar alerts which are automatically reported by other Escort Live users around you when their actual Escort detector picks up a Ka band... this is great because if there is a car several miles ahead of you with and Escort detector and Escort Live... you will pick up their alert long before you get to the target... and it shows you where it is on the map. Waze does not receive the Ka/ Laser information from Escort Live either which is unfortunate because there are alot of reasons why Waze is still better
3) I run Escort Live in the background of my iPhone 5 with Waze in the foreground and it will still alert me with a pop up
4) Running Escort Live or Waze I am spotting targets that the V1 is not picking up... and how can it when it is essentially using the social commuting network for information

The Bad... or why Waze is still better
1) Waze has navigation built in which is great because it will show you what potential hazards lie ahead, ie police, road debri (I stayed more alert which helped me avoid ruining the front end), traffic
2) it is still getting the spotted alerts from Escort Live, however I wish Escort Live can also share Ka/ Lidar/ Laser information with Waze via a subscription service
3) Waze has a much better graphical interface that is much better at showing where the Police might be hiding, whereas on Escort Live it is just a blip on the screen... both are much better than just relying on the V1's arrows however
4) Escort Live will leave an alert for as much as 90 minutes which leads to lots of false reports... I've readjusted it to 30 minutes in the settings, but it still gives me old reports
5) Since there is information from Escort Live that is still very useable... I find myself toggling between the two apps constantly depending on what Escort Live is telling me

In the end, I like Escort Live, it has plenty of good information and I will likely get a full year subscription (which is included when you get a smart cord)... will likely even get an Escort radar detector with a hardwired Smart Cord for my wife's car since she is likely better with less false positive hits

But if there was a way to seamlessly combine information from Waze, Escort Live, and my V1... that would make for a really nice setup... Currently with these 3 options used together... I haven't missed any police siting and they have all been confirmed... it's just kinda bonky toggling between 3 different options

Just upgraded to Passport Max + Escort Live (sometimes run Waze as well) and this works great for me.

Have both the V1 and the Escort 9500. Prefer the Escort. If you could add direction of warning to the Escort, you'd have the perfect radar detector.

The Bel and the Escort are basically the same unit.

You can Band Segment the Bel STiR+ and turn RDR off.

The Escort 9500ci does not allow this.

Both a segmented STiR+ and a V1C running custom sweeps will outperform the 9500ci

I use both a V1C and the STiR+ Better performance from the STiR with the arrows of the V1C

For what it's worth, I prefer Waze over Escort Live.

There is a ton of misinformation out there re: countermeasure's. I recommend radardetectorforum.org.

I recently purchased the Escort Passport MAX from the Escort Radar Website. The Max is by far the most superior radar I've used tbh. It has helped me even pick up laser radars from CHP so I've been able to slow down from 80 mph to 65 without being pulled over...which normal radar detectors can't do, but to be on the safe side get some laser jammers. On top of that, the multitude of options that it provides as well as it's automatic settings that enable you to drive and let it do all the work make it such an efficient system.

i just purchased the passport max as well. i had the 9500ci installed in my Evo that i just traded in & it was absolutely amazing. the max is a bit of a downgrade in stealth & no laser jamming, but portability is nice.

compared to the 9500ci (circa 2009), the range on the max is crazy good! i wouldn't buy a non GPS detector ever again, regardless of which one is chosen

How does it pick up laser and give you time to slow down ?

The only ways to get laser alert from radar detector (without jammer and shifter) and have time to slow down are :

1) Your radar detector pick up scattered laser signal from the car in front of you that LEO is aiming at (i.e. he is aiming his laser gun at the front car's plate, your detector picks up some reflections of the laser signal).

2) You use a real time networking system like Escort Live or Waze. Escort Live automatically uploads any laser or Ka alert to the cloud so subscribers can see real-time alerts. Waze does this manually (i.e. someone has to see the LEO and report him). Waze and Escort Live have currently an agreement to share manual reports, however automatic reports are not being shared (can only be accessed by Escort Live Subscribers)

Bad thing is that Escort became greedy and didn't offer Escort Live for free at the beginning. They charged for the cord and subscriptions, so they don't have too many users now. If they executed it right (offered it for free at the beginning and then after many users joined would start charging people), they could destroy all other competitions with their system.

Radars give you the wrong impression that you've avoided a ticket when in the majority of cases you're just passing a cop with his system powered up but not actively using it. Radar detectors are good at making owners "think" they're useful but the situation in which they would be effective is carefully avoided by cops. If you know anyone in Law Enforcement, they will tell you the same. Almost all of these people saying "it paid itself many times" or "saved me several times" are being taken for a ride.
LI do work, although seasoned cops will easily know that you have counter measured them and you better pray they do not decide to chase you. LI are illegal in most states and if you ever get caught with them, you can do jail time.
I use jugement and common sense, none of those "feel good" expensive RD and it served me well.

The V1 can pick up radar over a mile out. As long as there are other cars on the road, it is hugely useful. Traveling alone, useless. Poor range detectors are, indeed, "you just got a ticket" devices. That said, it's certainly not cop proofing-- it's additional information to use in your judgement and common sense based decisions.

Laser jammer are hardly illegal in "most" states. More like 20% of states. And most of the states it's illegal in don't have it as a jailable offense. And I've never heard of a single person being taken to jail for it where it is.

Wow I didn't know they were illegal in Texas..
